Return Business
There is no doubt that the vast majority of transactions and
interactions that take place on any given night are between transient
tourists and resident ladies. By transient tourists, I mean the fella
who is here for a short visit no matter how frequent those visits might
be. By his next passage through Immigration, many changes will have
taken place in the Pattaya bar scene. |

Bio-Diversity in Pattaya Thanks
to jjI am continually amazed at the level of diversity that the
Pattaya bar scene is able to maintain. A short run through the pages of
this website reveals how the limited number of farang managers and
mamasans, to say nothing of the ladies-of-the-hour, move freely and
frequently in orbit around this world. One would think that eventually
there would be a universal uniformity to all the gogo bars in Chonburi.
Some bars are a party (bordering on an orgy) while others are more
like a wake (not even Irish). In some bars, the ladies can’t seem to
find their costumes; in others the costumes seem glued on. I have been
in bars (on a slow night) and had 5-7 ladies vying for my attention (and
lady drinks); in others (even on a slow night) I have been completely
ignored. In some bars, the sight of a folded bill of any color engenders
an immediate (usually favorable) reaction; in others anything less than
a red note taken as an insult to their profession.

A Harbinger of Things to Come? Thanks
to jjThe angst over a pending pandemic of bird-flu infecting humans
still smolders in the news. It hasn’t happened yet and won’t happen
soon, but could happen in the future. |

Quality
Merchandise Thanks to jj Generally speaking, sales is one of the most difficult professions. It is made easier when the customer comes looking for the product. Selling something that the customer doesn’t yet know he wants as in door-to-door sales is the most difficult of the difficult. All salesmen need to be somewhat immune to rejection. Many if not most customers are likely to reject your offer. How difficult must it be to handle rejection when the product you are selling is yourself? This is the trade of the bar-girl. These ladies-of-the-hour are indeed selling themselves to complete strangers. What is more, most of those potential customers aren’t interested in the offer. Advertising is an integral part of sales. Other than word-of-mouth, a bar girl can only advertise by being visible. For many bar workers, this often means being vocal as well (“Hello, Welcome!”). For the go-go dancers, they are usually displaying their assets as a means of advertising. The initial objective is to attract the customer through the door. Hence, the ubiquitous Hello-girls and Happy hour signs. Once inside, the customer has two choices. Many choose the path of least resistance and make a partner choice or the decision to move on based purely on looks [see the H&C review: Speedy Retreat]. This is like buying a product off the shelf based purely on price and color of the box with no consideration given to content or quality. The second approach is to give the sales-ladies a chance to make a sale. How does a bar worker “advertise” her personality? How can she “advertise” her abilities? How can she “advertise” her hidden qualities? How do the ladies on stage feel when a potential customer enters the bar, circles the stage and exits without sitting down? Each, in turn, has been rejected purely on the packaging. I have watched this happen time and time again. Perhaps these customers have a particular idea in mind. Perhaps to them, the outer package and price are more important than the quality of the merchandise. I suggest that they are missing out on some true quality experiences by such a shallow assessment of the product on sale. Permit me a wine analogue. A freshly bottled, brightly labeled wine with a low, low price is rarely as good as a somewhat more ‘experienced’ bottle. Even at the same price, choosing the brightly labeled bottle of wine over a somewhat dustier one is often a mistake. The lesson here is that there are many factors to consider when making the choice of a partner and packaging is the often least of those if any semblance of quality is desired. |

Mansions Thanks to Ian Hotel review: Holiday Mansions 368/2 Soi Chalermprakiat

| 1st June | A happy medium Thanks to jj I've commented before on my divided loyalties between enriching the bar owner versus the lady providing the entertainment. I've been out with friends who down 3-4 drinks to my one - enriching the bar owner - but who never buy a lady drink. I can only assume (hope) that a direct transfer of funds takes place. Although in watching other customers in multiple venues, it seems that direct tips to the ladies are often overlooked. It would seem that they are trying to have the best of all choices, getting buzzed themselves without tipping the ladies. As far as I'm concerned, ordering a lady drink early in the conversation is simply laying the foundation for a three hour relationship. It establishes the customer's willingness to pay to play. It keeps the lady's interest before any pleasantries are established. It also keeps the mamasan happy. In the unfortunate event that your lady must depart for the stage, the sweating glass on the table also wards off roaming sharks. Newbies, especially, need to be indoctrinated that the ladies have drink quotas. Three to five per shift is a reasonable expectation. A mamasan isn't going to be happy if you monopolize the lady for a few hours without buying her drinks, even if you eventually do BF her. The profit on your drink is the owner's alone. Any tips to the lady are hers alone. The price of the LD is shared between the lady and the owner, therefore, a happy medium. |
| 14th May | Divided
loyalties Thanks to jj I
suppose that I’m a strange bloke in that I do not barfine the ladies. I
confine my Pattaya nightlife activities pretty much to grab and tickle
as well as the inevitable gawking. All things considered, I suppose that
I actually tip pretty well when a lady shows me a good time. I also
attempt to help her achieve her quota of lady drinks. Yet, I find it
utterly amazing that these ladies can remember my name. I can return to
a bar after a couple of months to find that I am being addressed by name
as I am being seated. If a prior acquaintance is present, she’ll often
rush over. If those ladies have moved on, as they so often do, the
waitress will often offer up a likely candidate. My memory for the
myriad of Leks and Gungs is such that I keep a ‘little black book’ of
dates and names to help refresh my worn out brain cells if I am
returning to a bar after a gap in time. I stop short of "rating" the
ladies, just noting name and place. On rare occasion, I have been caught
short by a former companion of the evening who has since switched bars.

| 3rd April | Made my Holiday Thanks to Mike I was just reading through the various reports on Pattaya. I was out there for a week with a mate of mine we got back home 2 days ago and to be honest I am already missing it and looking forward to going back as soon as possible, I enjoyed every minute it was the first time either me or my mate had been there and I will always go back especially the last 3 nights I spent with the same Thai girl she was a fantastic person and made my holiday, I also found the people to be extremely friendly. Could you let me know how to post onto the site so I can put how much I enjoyed it so that other people may decide to visit. I will definitely be back over to Pattaya within the next 6 months. |
| 28th March | Wonderful Time Thanks to Gary I stayed in Pattaya Beach for about 8 days this March
and WHAT A WONDERFUL TIME I HAD!!!! I hooked up with a few different girls out there. One place in
particular that I visited was the Kiss Kool club in Soi 6. The
girls there VERY sexy and friendly, much like all of the girls in
Pattaya Beach. The only real draw back that I noticed is that if you
spend too much time with one girl, they tend to get really possessive. I
had been to Patong beach, Phuket (before the December 04 Tsunami) on 4
different occasions and I had came across this same problem. The girls
BEG you to take them back with you, but get really pissed at you if you
pay attention any other girls besides them.. It’s very different going
from spoiled, pail American women………to BEAUTIFUL, tan, friendly,
outgoing Thai girls. It never ceases to amaze me!!! Anyway, I just
thought I’d share that with you. |
