Government officials have sent an announcement out to ask all business people and entertainment owners to install surveillance camera system in front of and inside their places.

Business owners are concerned about the additional expenses they will have to pay. In view of all the recent blows to the farang economy, additional expenses for the business owners is hard for them to stomach.

A letter about the surveillance systems was first issued by Mr. Chaowalit Saeng-Uthai Acting Deputy Chief (Administrative 8) of Banglamung District Office on 8th December 2006. The text in the letter mentioned that, The Tourism Authority of Thailand Region 3 and Pattaya City Hall had invited the Governor of Chonburi over to the Royal Cliff Beach Resort on 2nd December to give a policy on welcoming tourists. The Governor has great concerns for the well being of the residents in Pattaya and also the tourists that are already starting to visit during this high season. On that day he also brought along an announcement to all Pattaya Business Owners regarding how to prevent crime. What he is asking is, for all business owners, including hotels, bars, restaurants, shops, banks etc., to cooperate and personally install a surveillance camera system inside their business places or any location suitable. This will cost each business around 40,000 to 50,000 baht.

The Chonburi Governors office also states that any business failing to make the installation of the surveillance system will not have their business license extended or renewed.

On Thursday 21. December Pattaya People asked the new Chonburi Governor Khun Pracha Terat for his comments to the demands for the surveillance systems. He answered that he felt it was an important measure to prevent and to suppress crime, that foreigners especially would understand this, because such systems was installed everywhere in their country of origin. He also asked everyone in the Pattaya business community to cooperate in this matter.

In October 2006, this was a one-off warning, we don't want it to become the norm in 2007.

Pattaya's Eden Club is go

Eden Club has now opened for business with hours of 13:00-24:00. The large neon sign was not illuminated and there were no welcome staff nor even an 'open' sign. Perhaps needs something to assure people that it is really open.

There seems to be about half a dozen girls there mostly from the Bangkok branch. It is hoped that local girls will soon follow to take advantage of the premium pricing.

The rooms are said to be nicely furnished with large beds and TVs with DVD player.

 
My Friend You Bar drops downstairs service

My Friend You, the famous Soi 6 bar has dropped the option for downstairs service on the very dark communal couches.

This is apparently in response to recently increased police hassle.

Of course, more private upstairs pleasure is still available.

We are now starting providing continuous shows from 9.30pm running through until about 1.30am.

In the last few months we have been making extensive changes with a lot of new shows and new ladies as well as installation of sofas inside to allow for more comfortable seating.

 
Thai Scrooge wants Midnight Bar closing for Christmas

Venues outside late zones 'must close at midnight'. Purachai insists Social Order must be enforced, with no exception for Xmas

Former interior minister Purachai Piumsombun, whose strict Social Order policy several years ago was widely opposed, warned yesterday that many new night entertainment venues were operating illegally outside permitted areas.

Purachai, now chairman of the National Legislative Assembly (NLA)'s panel on justice, police affairs and human rights, called on the Surayud government to strictly enforce the zoning policy, which allows venues to operate in only three areas in Bangkok - Ratchadaphisek, Phetburi and Patpong.

He said a large number of pubs, nightclubs, plus restaurants and food gardens where music is played for customers, now operate freely along Phaholyothin and Nawamin Roads.

But any place that sold alcohol after midnight - outside the three late-night zones - was regarded as unlawful.

Speaking at a seminar on road safety campaigns during the New Year holiday period, Purachai said he may need to submit an urgent motion to the government if it failed to strictly enforce the Social Order policy - which is now in effect as a ministerial regulation.

 
Paradise A-GoGo gives way to Club Oasis

The bar is now closed and on hold whilst the owner is concentrating on getting Club Oasis A-GoGo up and running a few hundred metres north on the same soi.

The girls and staff have transferred en-mass to the new venue.

Ideas are being considered for Paradise, perhaps the smaller venue may suit becoming an afternoon gogo.

 
Club Oasis A-GoGo opens on Soi Buakhao

The large looking GoGo opened on Monday 18th December to a good turn out. The bar seems set to play rock music. Early reports suggest that the bar needs some prettier girls but if the bar is successful, then the pretty girls will surely follow.

Drinks prices seem to been set to reasonable levels with a large glass draft at 50 Baht.

And a request to the owners, get rid of the guy in toilets who attempts to massage your neck without permission. I consider this an intrusion on my personal space.

 
Super Model has a face lift

The bar had the builders in for a few days and has now re-opened. The end of the flirtation with table dancing has been marked by the return to the central solid wedge shaped gogo stage. Two tables near the entrance are still used for dancing.

As well as a lick of paint, there seems to be a new cast of girls with a couple of pretty fresh faces amongst them.

Unfortunately the cast is somewhat depleted and there were only 9 girls in the bar of which 5 were dancing. Given a toilet break after their dance stints and the time taken to order a drink then the girl will sit down, take a sip and then have to start again on the next 5 song dance stint. All the dancers were wearing bikini tops. Some were knickerless under the traditional flimsy skirts but it takes a while to realise this.

The mamasang was working well to try and assign the few spare girls to customers, but the pretty young girls seemed to resist her suggestions, probably waiting on pretty young men to enter the bar.

The drinks prices seemed reasonable with a good size glass of draft at the happy house price of 49 Baht.

 
Spicy Girls A-GoGo reopens after building works

I popped by to check out the renovations and was a little under whelmed. The gogo bar has been partitioned and set back by a couple of metres. The open area that has now appeared in front has been furnished with a few seats and looks as if it will be used for a beer bar area.

Not much as changed inside except that it is smaller. The stage now only fits 3 dancers and looks as it was chopped down the middle, which of course it was.

The music is still via oldie farang rock videos and the girls are still the wrong side of average. And to make things even more boring the girls have sprouted short denim skirts and bikini tops.

I think the girls sussed my vibes of boredom and gave me a wide berth. But they also seemed equally standoffish to another couple of customers who wandered in.

 
Soft Opening for Pattaya's Eden Club

Eden Club will have a soft opening on Tuesday 19th December.  The bar is currently recruiting and it is hoped that this will speed up when the girls can see the bar in operation.

Eden Club is the the famed Bangkok bar where anything goes and multiple ladies are very much encouraged. It will be managed by Jacko previously at Kitten Club.

The club will have a total of 12 rooms for in-house sessions (four larger ones and eight smaller ones).  The pricing and policies will be identical in Bangkok and Pattaya. In the beginning, the Pattaya club will have about 20 ladies on staff, with four or five coming from Bangkok to help with the training of the Pattaya hires. After that, ladies will be rotated between Pattaya and Bangkok.

Eden is a bit different to other places in that there is no interaction with the ladies before making your choice and that drinking beer is not the main intention.

Tourists supporting Thai tradition threatened

Many such proclamations have been issued in the past to little effect. Of course the imminent visa hassles may create a fair few candidates for 'specially trained volunteer' duty as snitches.

Men who visit Thailand for sex, be warned: the new government is out to stop you.

That was the message when Tourism and Sports Minister Suvit Yodmani addressed a group of South African journalists in Bangkok at the weekend. Suvit said he welcomed South Africans because they're "quality tourists".

Suvit made it clear the administration, which came to power in a bloodless coup on September 19, aimed to curtail the sex trade. Prostitution is illegal in Thailand, he said. The South East Asian country's police force is being assisted by tourist police, and will be further bolstered by specially trained volunteers.

He is due to announce further steps before the end of the month to tighten up on the policing of the sex industry.

The Pattaya Chat forum is in the process of biting its own tongue. Peter Winthrop the charismatic owner of chat lost it after several members, sick of his constant stream of hate towards Secrets, decided to set up their own forum but helped them selves to a copy of the members database.

As a result Peter, known as a complete fruitbat at the best of times flipped his lid, hurled abuse at everyone, banned numerous loyal members, not just those who had deserted him, then shut his forum down (edited highlights).

The departing forum members have now set up Pattaya-Revealed and good luck to them.

Meanwhile Pattaya Chat has re-opened after a few days cooling off, but surely the repeating downtime will discourage continuing loyalties

Club Oasis A-GoGo opening soon

The opening date is now being advertised as December 15th.

Club Oasis A-GoGo is a new, large looking GoGo bar being converted on Soi Buakhao between Soi Diana Inn & LK Metro. A recruitment banner is now being displayed.

The GoGo is looking for around 50 staff so it looks to be quite a large venture. It is being undertaken by the owner of the other Soi Buakhao GoGo, Paradise.

Update: opening now advertised as December 15th or 16th or 17th...Now Monday 18th

There has been a venue swap in Soi Pattayaland 2 between Jupiter and Wild West Boys opposite. The old Jupiter has been converted to new larger Wild West Boys. And the old smaller Wild West Boys has now been restored as Rodeo Girls.

All of these venues are under the same ownership so presumably the Jupiter girls will now be found at Rodeo Girls.

Spicy Girls was also noted to be dark on Friday night but that has happened a few times before so maybe nothing yet to be concerned about

The net change is that the boy bars have made further inroads into Pattayaland.

New Chonburi Governor talks about late night venues

The subject has also been raised in the Pattaya forums with respect to the new Pattaya police chief. The whisper is that the current late night opening will be tolerated over the holiday season but after that...

Khun Prachar, the new Governor of Chonburi Province, chaired a meeting at Pattaya City Hall on Friday Morning to brief the Pattaya City administration on new policies he has implemented here in Chonburi Province since taking up his new position.

The Governor also talked about the late night entertainment industry here in Pattaya and how the Administration must ensure that entertainment venues must be checked to ensure they operate within the confines of the law.

I have read that royal birthdays are no longer to be designated as dry days. So we all may raise our glasses to the King....

Except that...a long period of dry King's birthdays has meant that closing bars has developed into a something of a tradition. Many bars will be closed, not through compulsion, but through tradition (and face saving over promised days off for the staff).

But there will surely be enough open bars for those that want to celebrate.
