Review April 2008: Unchanging
Nothing very much seems to improve at this bar but it seems to keep
soldiering on with a smattering of customers.
It would be tempting to think that a business consultant could
suggest a few blatantly obvious improvements.
The main problem is that there are simply too many girls dancing and
not enough circulating amongst the customers. The girls are simply not
pretty enough to entertain as dancers, and there is not any attempt to
entertain with nudity or sexy shows either.
The girls also have a habit of plonking themselves down by your side
and not shifting if you show no interest. This policy doesn't really
allow another girl to try her luck.
On the plus side, the service is good and and there is no hassle
whatsoever in the bar. The beer is reasonably priced and they play
farang friendly music

Pits Stop
This bar is a convenient point for an air con break
when walking the length of Jomtien beach. Unfortunately they have hardly
ever capitalised on the opportunity to extract a lady drink out of me.
The girls aren't that pretty, they are generally
overdressed and they spend most of their time dancing...
...And when they do find a few moments to
try for a lady drink, they are sort of already demoralised and give up
in the middle of trying. They end up just plonking themselves by your
side in defiant silence.
There seems no particular reason why the shouldn't
sharpen up their ideas...they just don't

No 1 with CCTV
The bar has installed CCTV inside and outside of the bar. When I was
watching the bar was showing 4 views. Two are external with views along
the road to the left and right. There were 2 internal cameras. One was
watching the bar keepers behind the bar, the other was overlooking the
end of the stage nearest the bar. It wasn't spotting any of the dancers
though, but would catch customers sitting at that end of the stage.
I am not sure if it was having much effect on the naughtiness of the
bar as the girls are rarely naughty on stage anyway. There is also a bar
policy of keeping the majority of girls dancing, leaving hardly any
chance for them to get friendly with the customers. So as usual, lonely
looking customers were left to stare at insipid looking dancing.

Why No 1?
Jomtien's only agogo calls itself No 1 but has little to recommend it
as such. Sadly it is a rather typical bar that makes the standard
errors.
First among them (mentioned multiple times below) is the overly long 7-9
song sets. Once your lady-of-the-hour "go dance" she's gone for about
that amount of time. NOTE TO OWNER: It is possible to put them on stage
two at a time.
Second is the music. For us older chaps it is a rather nice mix of 70's
rock and ballads. In a rather unique twist, every song is a music video
with two projection TVs broadcasting the original artists belting out
their hits. Watching the TV at least offers the customer something to do
while his lady is gone for an hour or so. NOTE TO OWNER: Some "soulful
ballads" are impossible to do the Issan shuffle to even for the
practiced shuffler.
Third is the volume of said music. It is a good thing that the ladies
seem up for a bit of grab & tickle because conversation is out of the
question. NOTE TO OWNER: Louder is never better.
The last example of a lack of competition is the 95 baht bottled beer
and 800 baht BF I was quoted. NOTE TO OWNER: Perhaps someone was just
skimming the other 300.
They have adopted the time-honored knickerless micro-mini. About half
the ladies were dancing topless. Nothing too much to complain about
there but nothing to make them No 1 either.
Not a bad experience overall so if you find yourself in need of a gogo-fix
while "south of the border" We Are No 1 is your No 1 (and only) choice
so they don't even have to try harder.

Recommended
Went there yesterday, about 1400 baht in drinks, the bin was correct,
the girls very friendly, no problems about a bit of finger, not pushy,
very impressed, 500 bar fine and 500 for a depraved quickie, great.

I May be Gone Some Time
An improvement on my last visit with about 20 girls in the bar. Some
of them were being quite playful with their farangs. There were even a
few that were good looking.
However the age old problem with this bar persists. The girls do a 9
song dance stint. The girls are nowhere near pretty enough or
interesting enough to want to watch them shuffling for 9 songs.
So, as per every 3 monthly visit, I see potential, but I leave after
one drink and go and have a pleasant time in nearby bars where the girls
can hang around awhile for a chat.
