The following reviews are those that I come across on the web, in guide books, from contributors and of course from my own visits. Reviewers may be unreasonably harsh and bar owners may present a rosy picture of their bars...so don't take everything at face value...go and see for yourself.

  News November 2011: Underwhelming

I stopped by at about 9pm, a week after re-opening.

It is a bar in need of a reality check. The facts from a customer perspective:

• The bar has the most expensive beer of all the nearby gogos.
• It has the least number of girls.
• The girls are the most overdressed of all the gogos (excluding the coyote bars).

In fact the bar has 5 dancers of which 3 were dancing at a time. Between them they just about qualified as a gogo with one of them wearing a bikini. The rest were overdressed with the addition of various skirts and solid bras. Actually there were a couple of decent looking girls on the team.

Before I departed there was at least one indication of a good previous night for the bar, as a presumably satisfied customer returned for another session with the pick of the dancers. So after they promptly vanished, there were just 4 girls. And with 3 of them dancing at a time there was no time for any of the dancers to hook up with customers (well one customer actually). No doubt the girls will soon be pissed off for having to dance nearly all night too.

But really what can one do with a small GoGo? It is so hard to get the balance of customers to girls right, and if they did, a couple of barfines would soon put it out of balance again.

I can't really see a small GoGo working as a bar for just watching girls dance, as the small scale show will always be somewhat underwhelming. If this is all the bar has to offer then customers will soon shoot off to Champagne or Oasis.

Perhaps the only way a small bar can work is as a hands on venue with lots of interaction. The scale of the show is then pretty unimportant. So maybe the best policy would be to make sure a girl jumps on the lap of every customer who enters, so at least 4 or 5 customers can have a good time, make a few friends, and make it a bar to return to.

  News November 2011: Re-opened

The bar has been intermittent since March 2011. Eventually it was sold and refurbished. It Re-opening on 11th November.

  Review July 2010: Unsurprised

I have dropped by a couple of times since the opening but have found that the bar has gotten very boring very quickly.

Perhaps I arrived at too early an hour but the bar was almost empty of customers. On the plus side there were still some very pretty girls.

The bar had about six girls dancing an overlong 6 song dance stint. About half the girls were topless.

After finishing their dance duty, the pretty girls seemed content to hide in the corners and around the back, leaving the customer interaction to the oldies and fatties.

I have a feeling that the younger girls were awaiting Japanese customers as a few dropped by. Perhaps the bar has invested in some promotional material with a Japanese target market.

The bar has replaced the cheap draft with cheap bottled chang.

  Review February 2010: Surprised

I was well surprised on my visit to the bar. Rather than few older girls reported my previous visitors, the bar was full pretty girls. There were about 20 dancers and perhaps 15 of them would get a job anywhere on Walking Street.

I rather suspect that there was something temporary going on as it was left to the older girls to go and ply their trade and sit with the customers.

The small bar is well laid out with comfortable seating mostly with a good view of the side stage.

There were 6 dancers at a time on stage wearing a bikini or half according to their wishes. The music was a little loud and selected for the benefit of the dancers rather than the customers.

With cheap drinks, surely the recipe to attract a few customers from Soi Buakhao. It will be interesting to see if the current attractive dancing troupe can be maintained.

  Review from Ishi, November 2009: Early Days

I saw 10 dancers in the bar. 4 of them were dancing on the stage. Most of them wore  bikinis, but a few of them were topless.

A Jacuzzi has been built  on the upper floor. But the Jacuzzi and show time will have to wait until there are enough dancers.

  Review March 2011: Coyote

The bar seems to have upped the number of coyote dancers whilst the number of gogo dancers has declined. There now seems more coyotes than gogo dancers on the central stage.

There are still the naked show girls, but naked dancers are becoming a bit of rarity in Champagne, The Office and MASH.

  Review by Lean January 2011: Enjoy it to the max

I have found Champagne a go go to be to my liking. My last trip I didn't see the good in it.

Right now, late January 2011, I've had a couple of great visits and have enjoyed the company of a certain dancer.

Nice rooms upstairs, 500 baht, Girl 1000 baht. With drinks and tips altogether about $60 US.........

I see a lot of reviews on this site, and I think too many guys are simply too negative. It's all too good here, there is nowhere else like it, so enjoy it to the max.

I come with a positive attitude, and want to respect and elicit the best qualities out of the girl. When you do that, you will always get the best experience from the girl you select.

Better crowd [than Oasis] and vibe, better ratio of girls and definitely better attitude from girls - a few stunners - one young lady with a very nice pair of enhanced boobs.

Best quality girls of these three Metro area GoGos. Drinks reasonable

  Review November 2010: Rammed

Champagne was positively rammed with both punters and lookers. Unfortunately as increasingly the case at Champagne, the best-looking girls huddled in the back or only feigned interest at the few hunky guys around, all around age 25. The bar's core constituency of older residents have to make due with second-tier dancers or watching the goings-on alone.

Admittedly, however, there was a lot to watch. Nudity seemed less of a problem here, but the fully-clothed coyotes do seem to be getting more central-stage time than in the past, which is not a positive sign. The big-baht, small-reward coyotes are better relegated to the side tables.

  Review September 2010: Afternoon

I made a rare afternoon trip to Pattaya and thought it was an ideal opportunity to try a Champagne tea.

The bar seemed to be doing very well with customers occupying about half the available drinks tables.

There were half a dozen girls dancing and they were an above average set of girls. Easily better than most daytime GoGos that I have tried over the last year. There were another half dozen girls on waiting their turn to dance.

There were several girls doing the rounds in search of lady drinks and tips but a few were also ignoring customers between dance turns.

Afternoon drinks are sold at Happy Hour prices.

On the whole the afternoon operation at Champagne seems to be a success.

  Review from Pattaya Secrets May 2010: Popular Shows

The bar was full at around 10pm. Enjoyed the show that was underway. Three girls dressed in night gowns were giving some anatomy lessons, the fourth even had forgotten to bring her dress along.

When the show was over, the dancers climbed on the stage and 2 girls went to the shower cubicle to get a scrub.

It was too crowded, but the place had a good vibe and the girls were enjoying whatever they were doing. Service was exceptional.

  Review Sept 2009: Flat

This is one of the least friendly gogos in Pattaya, at least for me. The girls don't seem to take any interest in the customers with the occasional exception of obvious previous acquaintances. Presumably its the way the locals like it...which they seem to do.

The bar has a central stage that was recently cut down in size, About half a dozen girls dance topless or in a bikini.

There's a naked play mat but it has limited visibility and I have never particularly watched what goes on there.

There are also a few tables designated for uninspired coyote dancing. Can't quite see the point of overdressed dancing in a gogo myself, but it no doubt adds to the variety.

The most luck I've had for a bit of interaction is with the service girls. There are quite a few of them and they can spend a little bit of time with customers if plied with a drink.

  Review December 2011: Ticking Over

I visited at about 10pm on a weekday evening and the bar seemed to be ticking over quite nicely.

There was a fair sprinkling of customers, maybe about a third full and there were half a dozen dancers with another girl soaping herself in the Jacuzzi.

The dancers were quite a mixed bunch in terms of both, attractiveness, and clothes sense. Several were wearing way too much, equally others were wearing none at all. There were always a couple of dancers on stage that would turn most heads.

The customers seemed happy enough to watch quite a lively dancing show, but there wasn't much interaction between the girls and the customers.

But on the whole it shows that a few attractive girls are enough to keep a bar ticking over nicely.

  News February 2011: Cheaper Draft

Perhaps down to the over dressed girls, perhaps down to their lack of interest in any interaction, but somehow the bar hasn't been a hit with customers.

So the bar has decided to reduce the price of draft to 55 Baht. I can't see it actually helping with the underlying problems of the bar though.

  Review January 2011: No Urgent Need  for an Appointment

The bar is clearly modeled on its successful gogo neighbour, Silver Star 2. It is a scaled down version, attractively decorated in white.

The front section has a central stage surrounded by narrow bench seating around the edges of the room. Narrow ledge seating seems to be a speciality of gogos in Soi 7 and 8.

The back section is focused on quite a large Jacuzzi, which wasn't in operation during my visit.

There were 4 or 5 girls dancing on the central stage in a range of attire.

There were probably a dozen girls total in the bar. Of these, half were attractive girls dancing in bikinis or topless. Then there were coyote dancers in negligee shorts and bras. A couple of dancers were looking faintly ludicrous by wearing a light, possibly 'nursey', looking bikini top and see thru skirt over the top of their coyote gear.

It seems to be coming quite common to see solid bras and shorts as gogo attire. Presumably the shortage of girls means that dancers dictate their own clothing preferences. It sure as hell ain't the customer's preferences.

The dancers were taking no interest in the customers, save when a few Thai guys came in to sit at the back.

There was a draft beer following the same price as its neighbour gogo at 65 Baht.

There's not really very much in bar that follows the clinic theme. Possibly a bit of a lost opportunity, or else something they will build on in due course.

  Review January 2012: Hanging In There

The bar seems to be at a pretty low ebb in terms of the number of girls and the number of customers. But otherwise it doesn't change much.

It is a friendly and well run place that is always perfectly good for a beer break. There never seems much reason to stay very long though.

The bar typically has either 3 or 4 girls dancing and a similar amount awaiting their turn. The dress code is bikini down to none. The dancing cast is generally a little below average but there are usually a couple of dancers that can catch the eye.

The draft beer is cheap and served in a good sized glass.

  Review March 2011: Precarious

Soi Post Office has surely seen better times in terms of customer counts, with all 3 surviving GoGos a shadow of their former selves.

Nevada now seems to have scaled down to about half a dozen girls and the welcome staff duties are assigned to a cardboard sign.

It all seems a bit of a shame as Nevada has been on my list of bars for a regular visit for a long time.

The decline in visitors is not easy for the gogos that lose out. Once numbers decline then if there's not many girls dancing then a proportion of customers do a U turn as soon as they enter the bar. Others might not be bothered by a lack of dancing, but may be similarly inclined to do a quick exit once realising there aren't enough girls to enquire as to where they come from and see to their immediate needs. And the problems only get compounded should a couple of girls be invited out by customers.

But the bar still offers the chance of a friendly companion for a drink or three. Its just that the chance of this has happening has declined in line with Pattaya's vanishing expat scene.

  Review September 2010: Dance Too Long

The bar is basically a sound, mostly daytime, gogo with several endearing features.

The bar typically has about 10 dancers. They dance in the full range from bikini to very little. About an average line up, but there's usually a couple of girls who stand out.

The music is strictly rock. And the drinks are reasonably priced.

As with several other bars, one of its fundamental flaws is that too many of the girls are set dancing. A daytime hangout should be about spending time with the customers, with just enough dancing to ensure a pleasant distraction for a few minutes whilst finding a drinking partner.

But even when there are no customers in the bar, then it is typical that 5 out of the 10 girls will be set dancing. That immediately means that customers have to spend half there time watching the insipid dancing. Usually therefore, "I Go Dance" results in a quick "check bin", and a short stroll to Hot and Cold.

  Review from Malcolm, May 2010: Pleasant Hour

Called in about 1-30pm. 3 girls were dancing, 1 naked, 1 topless and 1 in bikini. I ordered a draught beer (55B) and was left in peace. The naked girl dancing was a cutie with nice C cup assets. I gave her a wave as she finished dancing and she came over and sat with me.

Although only a 3 song dance sequence there were only 7 girls so it was 3 on, 4 off. Spent a pleasant hour with her, in between dancing. With lady drinks (100B) and a tip she seemed quite happy.

Called in today and she was just finishing her dance spot so we had a repeat session. Lady drink (small coke) 100B of which she said she got 50B, Of the 7 girls, 2 naked, 2 topless 3 bikini

  Review February 2010: Desert Oasis

This bar is another on my circuit where my favourite thing on offer is the aircon. There are actually not really many bars around South Pattaya that provide a bit of cool air during the afternoon and early evening hours.

Several years ago it was quite a lively daytime haunt but it has scaled down somewhat. Most of the time there aren't really enough girls to go round, and the chances are that customers are in for a lonely drink.

That's not to say that there isn't fun to be had. There are some friendly and attractive girls there, just not enough.

Anyway drinks are cheap, the bar is well run in terms no hassle and usually about half of the 3 to 6 girls on stage dance in very little.

If they could just up the momentum a bit it could easily be an afternoon highlight rather than just a decent place for  brief respite in the cool.

  Review June 2009: Nevada not Nirvana

There were about 12 girl in the bar of which 6 were dancing. Of the 6, usually half are naked and the others prefer bikinis. They dance to rock music which sometimes features long tracks, so the dancing stint can often be overly long. There are usually a few good looking girls, but there also the inevitable off-Walking Street heavies.

The girls now seem to prefer their own company rather than circulate seeking the company of customers. Maybe it is better in the afternoon, but my recent early evening visits have been lonely affairs.

The drinks prices are reasonable at 50 Baht or a draft Chang and 60 Baht for a draft Heineken. Served in a good sized glass too.

  Review January 2012: Back up to speed

Club Oasis is now more or less back up to speed. The very poor period for ladies and the debacle with VAT added to bills is now a distant memory.

I visited during mid evening in peak season and the bar was about full. There were two teams of dancers swapping every 5 or 6 songs. The stage was busy with about 10 dancers. There were plenty of attractive girls amongst them, but the overall ranking perhaps about average. The dress code was generally topless and dancing was reasonably spirited with plenty of smiles.

However the bar does have a rather limited niche. The amount of customers was several times more than the amount of girls. This bar is therefore mostly for that like to watch and soak up the atmosphere rather than expect the company of a dancer. Plenty of the dancers were circulating amongst the audience but they were spread pretty thinly.

I have stopped by several times in lower season and there is more chance for customers who want to hook up with girls to partake, but even then the odds were not on the customers side.

This bars seems to capture the specialised character popular in the Soi Buakhao area. Well run bars with decent drinks prices that pack in the customers, but with many more guys than gals.

  News October 2011: Draft price

The price of a draft beer has now risen to 59 Baht.

  News March 2011: Ex-VAT

The bar has wisely discontinued its policy of charging VAT which correlated with a clear decline in customers. It may not be a total cure though, as the bar also seems to be struggling to find girls who take much interest in the customers.

  Review March 2011: Just a blip?

I have been a regular visitor to Oasis without ever being much of a fan. Mostly because it is a convenient rest break point on a regular journey. Rarely have I been persuaded to stay beyond the required single beer and toilet visit. The bar has generally been ok, it's just that it is very popular and there are usually just too many guys for the amount of girls on duty.

But ever since Office opened up I have moved my allegiance there. It is a bar where I stand a good chance that friendly girls will persuade me to stay a bit longer.

I have a feeling that it's not just my trade Oasis has lost, but perhaps a few others too. Oasis seems to have compounded the problem with some sort of management policy change resulting in the recruiting of overdressed girls who seem more interested in willfully ignoring customers than interacting with them.

And then there was the imposition of VAT as an add on charge.

At least it is reasonably clear that it will be added with the welcome sign giving the draft beer price with '+VAT'. The bins on the table also make it quite clear. There are still prices on the wall that are not clear though.

Why on earth a bar wants to aggravate customers, particularly at check bin times when the tip is so readily withheld. It's not as if there can be any trade or business customers. And surely when many of the customers are from countries where 20% is the norm, then if they don't notice the VAT they will irritated by the extra charge. But if they do notice that VAT will be added then they may jump to conclusion that prices are 13% higher than they actually are.

Anyway with all these negatives adding up I wasn't surprised on my last visit to find the bar pretty empty at a peak evening hour.

However I think this has already registered with bar connections and the bar was offering a very cheap 42 Baht (39 Baht + VAT!) draft beer in a good sized glass.

In addition the girls had reverted back to a GoGo dress code, with bikinis and topless being the norm. The coyote dancers have probably shipped out to the newly opened M*A*S*H. Also there were more customers enjoying a bit of girly company than there has been in my last few whistle stop visits.

So hopefully any recent negativity will be but just a blip.

  News February 2011: VAT

Club Oasis have increased their prices across the board by 7%. They have elected to do this via the reprehensible trick of adding VAT to the bill. As if there were any business customers in the bar.

  Review by Greeny December 2010: Not Friendly

Dropped by about 9pm and there were a lot of punters - almost exclusively older guys - music not very inspiring and not a good ratio between girls and punters.

The vibe was not all that friendly and it was like walking into a club where you are not a local. Girls were way overdressed, not that interested in customers and a couple had a pretty poor attitude with one actually saying she was not interested in hearing some story I was telling her! Fair enough but the whole thing is a game and we all know the rules!

Expensive lady drinks and overall not a place to hang around!

  Review November 2010: Rammed

Oasis around 9:30 p.m. was rammed, with nearly every seat occupied. The bar seemed a touch lighter than usual on talent, but a number of girls seemed to have their hands full.

As per the norm, the crowd appeared to be the older, expat variety, but there were a few groups of younger lads, looking as if they were on a break from Afghanistan security jobs. They, of course, were swarmed by the high-so-wannabe showgirls.

While the pretties still wriggled their assets nude or partially so, the amount of clothing worn by the regular dancers was notable. Every single dancer was fully covered in bra and bikini, leading to suspicions there was a heavier police presence in the neighborhood than usual.

  Review September 2011: Better

My first visit since the change of management was in the afternoon, and I can report a definite improvement.

There were enough girls in the bar, so that they did not spend most of the time dancing. and so could spend a little bit of time sitting with the customers.

And indeed there were more customers there than I have seen for a couple of years. Not in any sense overcrowded though.

Some of the girls were young and attractive. Probably the best line up amongst the GoGos in that area. They seemed a little shy though, and the dress code was always bikini.

The bar has sensibly ended the idea of katoey welcome staff.

The bar has always been more of a daytime place than an evening place so any improvement in evening fare has still to be checked out.

  Review October 2010: Steady Trade

Pretty much an unchanging sort of bar which seems mostly targeted at the afternoon crowd.

Strangely all the dancers were a bit overdressed in a short skirt and bikini top. In fact they were knickerless but you wouldn't really know unless the dancer made a point of showing you.

There were 5 girls dancing and perhaps 7 or 8 awaiting their turn. Generally a little below average but there were two or three that would appeal to most. The music is oldie farang friendly.

Plenty of customers were getting good hands on attention from their selected drinking partners. I guess they were regulars rather than one off tourists so at least the bar has a reasonable customer base.

I am sure they could improve on the steady trade they get by employing female welcome staff. Lady boys seem a rather counter intuitive welcome to what appears to be a strictly girly bar.

  Review from Malcolm, May 2010: Ladyboy Guard Duty

Went in Club Nevada for a hour most afternoons and asked the girl that always joined me about Far East Rock, always a couple of ladyboys on guard duty at the door. She told me for some reason best known to the owner, ladyboys on door and nice (real) girls inside.

Went in and yes she was right. Those ladyboys must frighten more customers off than they pull in. 2 beers for me and 2 ladydrinks B460

  Review August 2009: Still Underwhelming

I stopped by for a beer at the early hour of 7:45pm and the bar had the feeling of it being closing time already.

There were about 8 girls in the bar when I arrived but by the time I had finished my beer the bar was down to 2 or 3. 8pm is the end of shift for half or more of the girls.

I didn't stay for a 2nd beer to find out how the bar works out between 8pm and closing time at 10pm.

When I entered there were 4 girls dancing mostly bikini clad. Not a crew that stands out but a couple of the girls would surely be getting a few bar fines.

The service girl was friendly enough but the dancing girls were winding down so it is a bit unfair to comment on their interaction with the customers.

Probably better to give the bar a try in the afternoon.

  Review Jan 2009: Underwhelming

I have been somewhat underwhelmed when I have recently stopped by this bar. It hasn't really changed very much over the last few years, its just that a little less good than it used to be.

There are slightly less girls, they are slightly older on average and the decor is now slightly faded.

On the positive side the beer prices have been the same for ages and the bar continues with the oldie farang friendly rock music.

There are usually a few customers in the bar who are enjoying playing with the girls, so not a bad place. Never any undue hassle either.

Presumably the relatively early closing is something to do with running one shift of staff rather than two.

  Review January 2012: Hot and Cold, New and Old

Hot & Cold has moved more or less next door, into a venue that was once a restaurant. I am not exactly sure what the purposes of the move was but it certainly wasn't to transform into a brand spanking new state of the art venue. In fact connoisseurs  of the seedy dilapidation will be pleased to know that the new venue is little better than the old. And where the new bar may score a few points for a new stage and Jacuzzi, the bar loses a bucketful of points for poor design.

First of all the new bar is upstairs, not the most welcoming feature for a bar. Potential first timers can be a bit dubious about upstairs venues. And just to add atmosphere the Hot & Cold bar designers have specially imported the dirt and grime from the previous bar to decorate the stairway. Surely they could have spent a little cash on a mop and detergent.

Upstairs the bar is quite large with a reasonably attractive central stage and a large Jacuzzi installation. Maybe the bar ran out of cash after these two features as half the bar seems unfinished and undecorated.

There are comfortable seats around the edges of the bar but most of these are badly placed and too far away from the stage. And in fact if there was a sudden surge of interest in the bar then there wouldn't be enough seats to cope.

I was a bit gobsmacked at the design and atmosphere of the new place. Even my pretty drinking partner dancing on my lap commented that I looked a bit unhappy. I was wondering if the bar had much of a future. I've had some great times there and would hate to see it fade away.

  News December 2011: Hot and Cold and Newer

Hot & Cold is on the move. Although not much of a move. It has taken over premises just a couple of units closer to 2nd Road. The workmen are in whilst Hot & Cold stays open in the existing and rapidly disintegrating venue. Saying that, there doesn't appear to much going on there in the afternoons these days.

Surely a brand spanking new venue will change the character of the bar. The current rundown venue is almost part of the charm.

  Review March 2011: Hot and Cold and Cooler

As mentioned whilst comment on Club Nevada, The Sois 13 are having something of a meltdown in customer numbers.

Hot & Cold is a shadow of its former self but at least the shadow still offers some good hands on fun.

Actually the bar is a bit more flexible than either Far East Rock and Nevada and scales down the number of dancing ladies to ensure that customers can maximise their time with a lady on the lap.

The bar recently let go a few ladies and a few oldies departed. There are usually still a couple of attractive girls around, but it is now highly likely that new recruits will move rapidly on to greener climes.

The decline in numbers now means that it is very hit and miss as to whether there is an opportunity for fun.

But there's still a reasonable chance of an enjoyable visit, which is more than can be said for many GoGos.

  Review September 2010: Customer Downturn

Hot & Cold has long since been one of my favourite bars. Unfortunately its does seem to be suffering badly from the downturn in customers.

Its still a friendly hands on venue with its heart in the right place, but it is struggling to retain many attractive girls. There's still a few oldies in attendance, which has been a feature of the bar for as long as I can remember, but there are now hardly any younger girls to make it worthwhile.

Saying that, I've still had some good recent sessions, but it does rather rely on my long time customer status getting me first dibs at the one or or two attractive girls on duty at any one time.

Hopefully a little bit of extra momentum should put things back to rights as we head towards high season...I hope.

I called in Hot & Cold twice this week. not again.

1st time I ordered drink and cutie jumped on my left. I ordered her a drink and next thing I've another on my right and 1 in front of me begging for drinks. Told them I buy 1 lady a drink. The 1 in front took the hint but the 1 on my right would not give in. Time to drink up and go.

Went in again, I ordered a drink and again cutie plopped down next me. OK. I asked her if she wanted a drink (silly question) and she asked if she could have a bottle of Singha. OK she started a bit of hands on fun and next thing 4 more girls surrounded us.

So paid bill, (B125 for her Singha and B45 for my draught) left tip but she then started demanding B100 tip for herself. Left and wont be back.

  Review April 2010: Cooling

Hot & Cold can still be a fun place to drink but it rather depends on whether there are any girls to suit ones tastes available for lap duty.

Perhaps the times have been tough, but minor tweaks to bar policy have probably not done the bar any favours, and the bar often now struggles for customers.

Firstly they have upped the amount of girls dancing, which of course decreases the amount of time the girls are available for lap duties. And to be brutally honest there are too few girls in this bar that are worth watching dancing. The girls excel at hands on service, not dancing, so I think this is where the girls would be best employed.

Secondly the bar now allow girls to opt for more expensive drinks without asking the customers. Again the customer base for the bar is not really the ideal demographic for pissing them off. They tend to be expats or Pattaya regulars who know the going rates and when they are being taken advantage of. It is also a bar that specialises in providing multiple girls for a customer's attention. Being stung for several 150 Baht drinks will surely drive some away, never to return again. And continuing the brutally frank theme, most of the girls simply do not justify premium priced drinks anyway.

Anyway I don't want to be too negative as there are still good times to be had in the bar.

  Review, January 2012: Like the name says, the best chance of a kiss on the soi

Kiss has become my favourite GoGo within the LK Metro area. The area is clearly popular, but some of the most acclaimed bars, particularly Champagne and The Office are too popular, and there simply aren't enough girls to go round. Others bars in the area suffer from having too many coyote dancers with likely offish attitudes.

So Kiss stands out for possible the wrong reasons of not being overly popular, but the right reasons of having friendly and accommodating girls.

I guess one of the reasons for the lack of popularity is that table dancing does not make for a good auditorium show. The viewing angles are uncomfortable and the girls faces are lost in the shadows. So the bar has to counter this with a more interactive and personal service to keep the customers entertained.

This characteristic has the rather restraining consequence that the prettiest dancers tend to move rapidly on to the bars where they can get away with just dancing. So whilst such bars generally have a lower standard of dancer, there are usually a few that are still attractive, and so it is with Kiss.

The beer prices are very reasonable and it a pleasant place for a drink and a chat.

  Review, January 2011: Table Doubting

I rather predict that the layout of this bar will not work out well.

It certainly looks good. No problems on that front. It is basically a narrowish bar with a long line of table dancing positions. There is also a small unused stage towards one end an an unused Jacuzzi at the far end.

I for one do not find it very comfortable craning my neck upwards to watch dancers high above me and right in front of me. Its ok for a quick glance but not really comfortable for a long period.

I reckon if you did a scientific man-watching experiment at say Oasis, where there are seats with a dancing table in front of them, then I would postulate that customers will spend most of their time watching the more distant central stage with just an occasional glance at the girl towering above them.

The trouble with Kiss is that the long line of tables mean that there aren't any tables at the other side of the room where one can watch the dancing a bit more comfortably.

Table dancing had a bit of a fad a few years ago when there would be a bit of fun tipping the girls to squat down for a revealing look and play. But those days have long gone as the continuous tipping got a bit wearisome. Now I think table dancing only appears in bars as an add on. It provides a nice busy atmosphere where there is something going on wherever you look. The central stage is still the main focus though.

Otherwise the bar is farang run and seems a decent enough place. There is the mandatory cheap draft beer and most prices seem reasonable.

There were 3 girls dancing an unnecessarily long dance roster of 6 songs. They were dancing topless. The girls were about average which isn't bad in Pattaya. There were about 8 girls in total in the bar. Way too small a number, but its still early days.

I haven't found the girls to be particularly friendly on my couple of visits so far. But I guess that will change. If the bar wants to keep customers then they will need to provide good customer care to make up for the lack of comfortable dance watching options.

First impressions: it's a table dance venue, and looks a bit like a mini Beach Club, with the same tables and upward pointing lights.

However there was not a lot on show. All the girls were wearing bras and skirts, with a few taking off their knickers.

Music was quite farang friendly (Queen, Robbie Williams, Alphaville's Big in Japan, Tina Turner etc.) and not too loud.

One problem I noted was that the girls were dancing on the tables in high heels – the tables will be scratched to hell in a few weeks, unless the owners change that policy.

It's early days yet, but the girls weren't really up to scratch (though I did see one honey in there). Hopefully things will improve with better girls and less clothing.

Draught beer was a reasonable 60 baht.

I really don't know why the management of the Kitten Club/Obsessions GoGo continues to employ a few females in what is essentially a quite successful ladyboy boozer, other than pretending they are two separate bars with an imaginary divide. The bar currently has 8 girls and 35 ladyboys.

A few years ago Kitten Club garnered a reputation as a rip-off joint in terms of drinks prices, which were not being displayed, and some punters were stung with outrageous bills. That has now changed and things seem to have been well and truly cleaned up.

Kitten Club and Obsessions are 2 GoGo bars in one. They each have their own entrance but that lead to the same bar, a large GoGo bar with a central stage.

The left part of the stage and the left part of the bar are for girls and for girl oriented customers (real girls dance on the left part of the stage only) and the right part of the stage and the right part of the bar are for LB and LB oriented customers (LB dance on the right part of the stage only). Waitresses are either girls or LB and obviously are not limited to any part of the bar. Strange but interesting mix.

  Review from Pattaya Today: Night March, June 2009: Ladyboys

The bar underwent a complete remodelling a few months back after being forced to close for some misdemeanour or other.

While the new layout is more attractive than the previous rabbit-warren incarnation, the overall quality of the dancing damsels is borderline freak show.

Apart from the ladyboys, the genuine girls dancing damsels are a mixed bunch. While a couple are arguably attractive (and given the lighting I think they may well have started life as boys), most are either overweight or just plain frightening.

Drinks prices are ridiculous for what’s on offer: 150 baht for spirits, 139 baht for a lady drink, and 79 baht for draught beer.

Not worth a cracker unless your tastes run to the gender-confused.

I paid 900 bath for two drinks. One soda for me and one breezer for the lady I barfined!

I decided to look into Kitten club because I had read that they had now moved the ladyboys to a separate bar. How wrong I was.

The service staff marched me right to the back of the bar and then 3 tall ladyboys descended on me like pigeons around fallen breadcrumbs.

Kitten Club seems to have split into two. There are now two doors; one saying Kitten Club and the other Obsessions. They look to be two separate clubs.

Now Obsessions in Bangkok's Nana Plaza is a ladyboy bar so there is the possibility that this is the case in Pattaya too.

Due to high prices and customer unfriendly policies such as unpriced bills in the bin, Kitten Club is on the Thai-Anxiety, "Never Again" list. So it may be a while before further details are available.

  Review by jj September 2011: Afternoon Delight

The rumor of knickerless Las Vegas girls is confirmed. Spent an enjoyable afternoon with two cuties from SiSaKet who spent more time out of their costumes than in; not that there was much there to begin with.

From 1300 til 1800 there are about 10 ladies who are more than willing to entertain both on the dance floor and the bench. Only dancing three song sets allows plenty of time for hands-on fun.

There was a steady flow of customers, most of whom were regulars, judging from the reaction of the ladies. Some were welcomed with open arms and others were kept at arms length. I'll never understand the rationale of guys who go to lady bars, order drinks and sit there and talk. Two sat watching the dancers but talked between themselves and ignored (and were ignored by) the ladies. Two more sat at the bar with their backs to the action. Puzzling......

Biggest drawback was the expensive (125 B) LDs which were only a shot glass of SangSom.

  Review August 2009: Regulars

A brief visit as a couple of familiar faces meant that I couldn't dally long.

There were just 2 dancing girls who were bikini clad, There were another half dozen girls on hostessing duty. The girls were not special, so it is more down to a good bit of personal attention to keep the customers entertained.

Most of what was going on in my short visit was pretty innocent chatting, but I rather guess that more fun could be had if the customers so wished.

A decent draft was served for the good price of 50 Baht.

It all seemed a steady sort of place where everyone looked content enough.

At least they had a few customers. I guess that there is a pretty regular crowd here. Perhaps even a few regulars that remember the naked pool played at the bars previous location in Jomtien.

  Review Feb 2009: 50 Baht Draft

Las Vegas have reduced their drinks prices with a very reasonable 50 Baht draft (from 75 Baht).

Las Vegas have somewhat less than top notch bikini clad dancers but they are very friendly. Hands on and hands in as I like to say.

When this Bar was situated on Soi Post Office it was a regular stop off place for me and my friends during a good weekend daytime pub crawl, had many a good time there, and bedded some fairly decent girls there over the years, and the owner Peter came up with a classic retort one day that sticks in my mind even now, I has chastened him for his girls lack of enthusiasm on the dance floor, and he said My girls are here to get fucked, not to dance, and you can’t argue with that logic can you? Sadly, the in new place the girls showed a similar lack of enthusiasm, and I couldn’t see even one girl in the worth playing with.

As for the Bar, well it certainly appeared smaller than the original place, although a little bit classier in terms of décor, the old place was fairly basic if my memory serves me well.

I will give the place another try in the New Year, if only in deference to Peter and his unique style of man (woman) management.

  Review Sept 2008: Opening Night

The bar opened with very much the feel that it will blend in with its near neighbours, Far East Rock, Club Nevada, Spicy Girls and Hot & Cold. It is similarly sized too.

It will open in the afternoon and offers reasonable rates for in house short times.

The drinks seem to be set slightly higher than the opposition with a 75 Baht draft. Lady drinks were 100 Baht

There were plenty of girls on hand for the opening night, although a little questioning suggests that some were employed just for a day or two. The girls were very much a mixed bunch with a few that were presentable.

The dress code is bikini but only 3 or 4 were dancing at anyone time. Surely a good idea giving more time for smooching rather than dancing. There are no novelties such as Jacuzzis or show girls, so the bar will just have to rely on the girls providing good old fashioned hands on entertainment.

I enjoyed my stay but will have to stop by again to make a more realistic appraisal of its offerings. Everyone was eager to please on opening night.

  News, October 2011: Behind the Curtain

The bar is now divided in two with a big black curtain. The front section is a coyote bar with girls dancing in the windows and a live band.

The back half of the bar is a GoGo. The GoGo section hasn't really changed in layout and is essentially even worse than before. The comfortable seating along the back wall is simply an impossible distance from the stage.

The GoGo operation has been well squeezed by a poor layout, coupled with the surrounding area declining as a nightlife centre as it makes way for new hotels.

There were just two girls dancing, and there was a 3rd girl doing her rather tame stuff in a Jacuzzi.

There was another two or three guys who were being well looked after by the girls awaiting their turn to dance.

The mamasang was doing her bit to ensure that the smattering of customers were happy enough.

But really the GoGo was operating below critical mass and things don't look good.

  News, June 2011: Gone Coyote

The builders have been in and have installed windows. So now the bar is open to the world and coyote dancers have been installed. There are reports that the bar still has a GoGo section hidden behind a curtain.

  Review December 2010: Low Key

The bar was operating a pretty low key sort of way with around 15 girls in the bar.

Quite a lot were dancing but not many were baring very much. I was told this was down to a recent police visit causing a bit of alarm on the showing front.

There were a couple of decent looking girls on the dancing team but they put me off a bit by introducing themselves as a double act.

A friendly service girl informed me that the business seemed to have declined of late with departing customers often speaking of preferring the Soi 6 GoGos. I think that is probably just coincidence, and any decline is more likely due to duff western economies. But I did rather concur with the comment and duly wandered off to Soi 6.

  Review May 2010: Low Season Design Issues

I dropped by the bar at a reasonable time and the bar had a handful of customers, 8, I counted them. But the crazy thing was that the bar was effectively full.

The bar was designed in times of plentiful customers, but now there aren't so many around, the large bar design is proving useless.

There are loads of decent seats around the edge of the bar but these are around table dancing stages that aren't being used. These seats are way too far away from the main stage so just end up being dark and empty.

There are a couple of bays of seating, but most of the seats either face away from the stage or else have a restricted side on view blocked by posts.

The only other seats are the best in the house. There is a long bench with a decent view of the stage down the front wall. This bench was filled with 6 of the 8 customers. There are plenty of small stools around but, these were uncomfortable and last choice.

The bar had a dozen or so dancers with 6 dancing and 6 enjoying chatting to customers. So again the bar was effectively operating pretty near capacity with just 8 customers.

And soon there were 7 because a comfortable seat and a pretty girl by ones side is the basic requirement for a successful gogo of this type.

But at least the bar had 7 customers, who seemed to be enjoying the hands on entertainment.

A mere shadow of its former self

After a long layoff, a visit to Classroom 2 (Soi 2) was in order. It was a mega-disappointment. Formerly operating like Windmill and Baby Dolls, C2 is now tame to say the least. The single lady in the shower was the only nekkid one. Precious few nipples were on display and gone were the naughty girls stage and the table dancing. The most endearing members of the staff were the service ladies.

At one point. my traveling partner and I comprised 2/3 of the entire customer level!

I admit that the seating drawbacks noted. Also the diversity of the dress and entertainment seems a bit bizarre, yet somehow it all seems to work in the end.

But the dancers are regularly bar-fined. One day just this week there were only 5 left at 2AM; the servers were pressed into service as dancers.

C2 seems to be a late nite venue. Nothing much seems to be going on before 10pm and things pick-up rapidly thereafter.

Somehow this place seems to flourish.

Half the time the bar looks pretty dead with no girls hanging around outside and I walk rapidly by. The other half of the time the bar looks pretty dead with no girls hanging around outside, but I go inside anyway. The bar still looks pretty dead but I sit down, and from out of nowhere the bar seems to locate a suitable drinking companion.

And half the time the girls proves to be one of the more playful I have come across in the soi.

In fact Mandarin has proven more of a guaranteed venue for good fun than any of the other dancing bar in Soi 6.

But for all that, I'm not sure I can recommend it to others as it always seems a little unlikely. But somehow it usually works for me.

 Review September 2010: Slowly Building Up

Perhaps a little surprisingly, I have found that Mandarin has proved the most enjoyable of the four dancing bars in the cluster at the Beach Road end of Soi 6.

Mandarin seems at a bit of a disadvantage as it hasn't established a presence with any girls on the 'racing line' where potential customers stroll by. It seems to suffer from being a little blocked off by street parking.

Anyway the bar has now built up just enough girls such that if there are no decent looking girls on the door, there are two or 3 more inside dancing that may be worth a look. Some of the girls now dance topless which really wasn't the done thing until Passion opened up opposite.

Perhaps the bar doesn't attract the prettiest girls on the soi but there's usually a couple of girls keen to oblige the customers with some hands on fun. Sometimes I rather think that it is neediness that motivates the girls

Saying that, there was actually a fair smattering of customers on my last visit. Previously I have generally been the only customer.

Drinks are reasonably priced.

  Review May 2010: Better

For much of the last year the bar has looked a little bit underwhelming with few enticing girls outside. But my most recent foray was an enjoyable visit.

It was hardly what you could call heaving, but there were a few customers and friendly enough girls to ensure that they were enjoying good customer care.

There were just 2 girls dancing generally in bikinis but sometimes less. They had a nice short dance roster so didn't spend too long away from their more important customer care role.

The drinks prices are very reasonable.

Hardly earth shattering, but at least the bar is now an alternative to Betty Boup/Passion. These seem to have relinquished their previous dominance of dancing bars on the soi.

  Review May 2009: Red

The bar seemed pretty much unchanged from previous incarnations.

There are still 4 bays of comfortable sofa seating overlooking a central dancing area now cut down to 2 smallish stages. At the other side of the room there is quite an expansive bar counter. It all looks pretty good with the sumptuous red theme that is traditional to the bar.

The dancers were generally a little below par and were a little overdressed dancing in skirts, knickers and bikini tops.

There were about 8 girls on duty, 2 of which were dancing. A couple were sitting with customers and the rest were sitting out front.

2 of the girls were good looking but unfortunately I was the 3rd in line. The 2 pretty girls were in fact looking after their customers well, but my assignment was a bit prim and proper, so not really much to stay for.

The draft beer was a reasonable 60 Baht.

  Review November 2011: Hit or Miss

MASH is basically a sound bar but I find it a bit hit or miss.

On the dancing side the bar usually has a few attractive girls but mostly they are overdressed coyotes. There's usually somewhere in the range of 3 to 6 dancers and only a third wear various GoGo costumes.

Of course if you have a pretty girl at your side, then the dress code on stage is not nearly so important. And perhaps that's where I find MASH so hit or miss. There are some girls who seek out lady drinks but not all. So sometimes it can be a fun place but most of the time it seems a bit dead.

Most other things are fine in the bar. There are reasonably priced drinks, the service is good and I've never been hassled by any silly bar annoyances.

The bar has now found a couple of topless dancers, but the large majority are still coyote. In a rather tame concession to over dressing, some girls take off their camouflage shirt and dance wearing a solid bra.

Another theme bar has opened on the rapidly upgrading Soi LK Metro. The latest edition is M*A*S*H A-GoGo, taking inspiration from the US TV comedy set in a Korean War field hospital.

The bar features a central stage with stacked comfortable bench seating around the sides of the bar. It looks pretty smart but not really much like a field hospital.

There were 4 coyote dancers, all fully dressed in bras, tops, and short skirts or shorts. Most of the dancers had a military camouflage shirt which pretty much was the main concession to the theme of the bar.

I spoke to a girl who danced topless at sister bar Office, so presumably the coyote dress code is the choice of the bar rather than the girls. There weren't even any bikinis on show, so maybe the coyote dress code is a long term feature of the bar. There was no sign of a Jacuzzi or play stage that would suggest any naughtier plans for later.

The drinks were reasonably priced with a cheap draft beer.

I'm not sure that war themes are generally very sexy. After all its a very much a masculine dominated occupation.

I'm also not really into coyote bars, they seem to attract dancers who aren't really into the scene, and tend to be a bit choosey or pricey or both.

So a bar that adds to the diversity of Soi LK Metro rather than another option for traditional GoGo addicts.

  Review October 2011: How Was Your day at the Office?

There's an old adage saying that one's experience of a bar can change from day to day and hour to hour.

I find that this description aptly fits The Office. It is basically a well run bar that ticks most of the boxes that it should to make a good GoGo.

It has a good team of attractive dancers, perhaps second only to Champagne. On my latest visit, there were about 8 girls on stage of which half were topless. Actually this was better than on previous visits, The Office/MASH/Submarine group of GoGos often seem a little nudity challenged and sometimes seem more coyote than gogo.

The girls are generally friendly and most seek out a customer for a chat, but sometimes I have been in early and the girls don't seem very interested. Perhaps the bar needs to build up a bit of momentum before the girls are spurred into action.

But sometimes the bar can get very crowded. I tend to do a quick U turn when I see the bar is full. There are then far too many guys for the number of girls available and there is little chance of any interaction with the girls. A bit like Champagne just down the soi. However spectator mode seems to keep plenty of customers entertained, so they must be doing something right.

Prices no different from Walking Street that I could detect and of course quality of girls is much lower.

  Review November 2010: Flashy

The Office is LK Metro's newest bar. About 10 minutes into a visit, the white lights flashed, the music stopped and the half-dozen, half-dressed dancers sprinted for the dressing room.

No police plodded through the door and the clothes came back off as the music went up, but the long arm of the law is obviously reaching past Walking Street.

For the record, The Office is still largely dreadful. Why the bar was about two-thirds full on a Monday night leads one to speculate that its clientele must prefer old, fat single mothers. Diligent fun seekers, however, can still find one or two needles in the haystack.

  Review September 2010: Improvement

Another visit at an early hour to see how the bar was progressing. And indeed the bar has improved.

First of all the dancers had dropped a fair bit of clothing and about half were now dancing topless.

But best of all, the girls were being more pro-active in seeking out customers. In fact the lady that approached me suggested that the boss was now insistent that customers sitting only should at least be asked if they would like company. Surely a policy that will stand the bar in good stead.

Anyway I left with a positive feeling that bar will quickly become established on soi LK Metro/Soi Buakhao circuit. And judging by the good crowds at Champagne and Oasis, there should be plenty of custom to go round.

  Review August 2010: Room for Improvement

I stopped by at an earlyish hour a few days after the soft opening.

First impressions are that the bar looks the part. It has a central stage with a Jacuzzi extension. There are two tiers of narrow bench seating down the sides of the bar and a couple of bays near the door. The back benches have a few long stretches with no access which will probably be avoided by customers.

The music was at a reasonable volume and included a few rock classics I hadn't heard in a while.

The drinks prices were very reasonable with a 60 baht draft and bottled beer at 85-95 Baht. Nuts were provided too.

So really the basics were in place.

There were a few attractive hostesses in office attire milling round but the bar connections suggested that some of these may be not interested in anything beyond being bought lady drinks. Up to them.

There were 12 dancing girls perhaps a little below average although there were a couple of attractive girls. This actually isn't too bad for a bar starting out. It takes a bar with a decent turnover before the bar can command the better girls.

The dancers were well overdressed though, 11 out of the 12 were closer to coyotes than gogo dancers. The dress code was generally knickers under negligee style shorts and a solid bra. One girl had a flapping open blouse that just about rescued the bar from being re-designated as a coyote bar.  The girls were organised into two shifts of 6 dancers

None of the dancing girls were being friendly with customers after their dance stint.

So for the moment, the bar doesn't really offer much for those that like interactive dancers  nor those like to see their dancers nude. But it looks as if the basics are in place that will probably allow for improvement.

Still there were actually a goodly number of customers stopping buy for a look, but mostly stopping for a quick drink and then off.

  Review September 2011: Momentum

My first visit wasn't really very much better than the previous incarnation of the bar, Wanthanna's.

But saying that the line up of 6 girls was very good. They were dancing 3 at a time with a change of shift every few songs. The girls were mostly bikini clad, but a couple were wearing less.

There was a cheap draft beer at 55 Baht served in a large glass.

The problem with the bar seems to be with just having 6 girls. The normal pattern was 3 dancing and the rest would sit outside trying to attract more customers in. This really left the bar inside rather dead with too few spare girls to mingle with the handful of customers.

Actually one of the girls made a half hearted attempt to be friendly but her heart wasn't into making much of an effort.

Really a GoGo bar needs a bit more momentum than was apparent on this visit. But there was nothing particular to fault about the bar. If it can build up a bit of a customer base and get a few more girls in, then it could well become a good venue.

  Review January 2012: High

I stopped by quite early during the week after New Year.

The first, middle and last impression is of the very high centre stage. I haven't see one that high since Babe Watch, long since closed in the Covent Garden Complex. I cannot see the point of elevating the girls into the ceiling shadows. Surely closest is best in a GoGo bar.

Anyway there is a double bank of tiered bench seating as the main viewing area. The lower tier has an even more neck craning angle than the high tier.

It is clearly early days for the bar and the dancer count was just 6.  A couple were attractive enough though. 3 were dancing at any one time. The basic dress code was gogo skirt and bikini top, but one girl has a string affair that nearly counts as nude.

There was a cheap draft at 55 Baht and the service girls were friendly.

Clearly too soon to judge...but really that high stage...

  Review October 2011: Chilling

Being a creature of habit I always start a stroll down Soi 6 starting from the 2nd Road end. And more often than I would expect, no girl stood out as a potential drinking partner for the entire length of the Soi.

So now as I get to the end of the So I like to find a bar with half an hours worth of aircon and a couple of cold beers whilst I consider my options. Maybe to try another cruise of the soi or else hop on a baht bus down to Walking Street.

Anyway there are 3 bars that fit the bill where you pop in without selecting a girl first and chill whilst being entertained by dancers. OMG is a bit of a write off at the moment, it hasn't really gelled as a dance bar. My favourite is Mandarin where there can be good hands on fun, but unfortunately it is often lacking enough girls and is therefore unreliable. So Passion becomes the default choice as it is very reliable for having pretty girls on the stage and enough atmosphere to let the time fly by.

Passion is also the closest in style to a traditional Walking Street GoGo. It usually has 3 or 4 girls dancing, a couple sitting around and the rest sitting outside. This sitting outside seems to be the main difference to a traditional GoGo and is presumably a nod to the Soi 6 ethic of being able to pick up a girl on the way into a bar.

The beer is cheap and cold, as is the aircon. Excellently fitting the chill out criteria, exactly as required.

  Review from Lean June 2010: A Good Time

My visits to this club were enjoyable, and the place rates a return on my next trip to Pattaya........First, Heineken is cold, cheap 60B..... Second, I found the dancers attractive and eager on all of my visits.........Third, showers within the rooms upstairs, versus shared.....

One girl in particular, remembered me from a visit when I just had beer.......told her I'd return, and sure enough, was ready and waiting for me when I came back........gave me quite a experience upstairs....possibly the best on my whole vacation........

I do believe the better looking girls will go for the guys who are not fat, old, and balding........being trim and fit, I had 3 dancers going for me at one time on one visit.......maybe the word got around that I tipped well.

It may be my first stop when I return in January.

  Review June 2010: Taking a Break

I find Passion very conveniently located to take a beer after a first pass of Soi 6, and to take a breather whilst deciding what to do next. I especially enjoy the good aircon.

The bar is attractively designed with a fair amount of traditional chrome. There is comfortable bench seating around 3 sides of a square stage.

The bar usually has 4 or 5 dancers on the central stage and the small table stage at the back. The girls are generally topless.

There's usually a fair range of girls with always some being very pretty.

Drinks prices are very reasonable and short time fun is available more at Soi 6 prices than Walking Street levels.

Plenty of hands on fun to be had to encourage the customers a bit.

This side of it has never seemed to work out well for me though. The prettier girls seem to either be a little bit selective, or else seem to shoot outside to act as door candy as soon as their dance stint is up.

But for me its success is being the only place on Soi 6 where one can have a beer in the cool without committing to a lady at the door.

  Review November 2009: First Impressions

They say first impressions count, and mine was to trip up over a not very visible step at the front door.

But once safely inside, things soon looked up. The bar is a little smaller than Betty Boup opposite and is attractively decorated with a chrome thene. It is basically a square with comfortable bench seating around the walls. The square central stage is quite large and is set lower than most. There are stools with backs around the stage.

The music covers a fair range of genres but is basically there to be danced to. It is perhaps a little loud but it is after all, a dance club.

The girls made for a very impressive line up, probably about the best I've seen for an opening day. One of the advantages of running two bars is the flexibility to move girls around as needed.

There were only 2 or 3 girls dancing as most were occupied being hands-on friendly with the customers. Exactly as it ought to be. A quick look at the white board, showing plenty of barfines and the likes, suggest that this approach was working well.

The drinks prices are very customer friendly too.

So a good first impression, apart from the doorstep that is.

The bar was dark in early December.

  Review October 2011: Unrenovated

Since I last stopped by, the bar had a period of closure, with a sign proclaiming renovation. But in fact I didn't spot anything that had been renovated, not even the girls. Presumably it was put on ice for a while. The bar is probably the most minor of the ownership trio that includes Kiss and Far East Rock, and is probably the most likely to give way when the girls are needed elsewhere.

There were only half a dozen girls in the bar, with two dancing at a time. And a below average team at that. It doesn't appear that the bar will be setting Soi 7 alight any time soon.

But, as always, I found some pleasant company for a couple of cheap drinks, and I enjoyed my stay anyway.

  News July 2011: Closed for Renovation

The bar has closed for renovation, the second time this year. A notice on the bar promises a re-opening on 1st August 2011 and suggests that in the meantime the staff may be found working at Kiss A-GoGo on Soi LK Metro. Re-opened as planned but little sign of any renovation.

  Review April 2011: Same But Nicer

The bar has re-opened after renovation and looks better for it. Taking a few tips from the old Sexy Girls A-GoGo, the bar has squeezed in a bench seat down either side of the narrow bar. The central stage has been narrowed down by reducing it down to little more than s series of joined podiums.

The customer are has been extended further into the back of the bar with the addition of a couple of table dancing stages and seating.

Unfortunately the bar hadn't allocated much of the development budget to the hiring of girls, and the cast list is somewhat below average. However there was one girl that would be sure to pickup up a decent amount of barfines.

But actually the bar is a still a decent place to visit assuming that barfines are not the primary motivation. The girls are very friendly, the drinks are cheap and the atmosphere is relaxed. I was persuaded to stay for a couple of drinks, which is more than some bars manage.

  Review January 2011: And Then There Were None

A while ago there were usually a couple of decent looking girls on hand. More recently the more youthful wing of the bar was down to one. And now she has moved on to grace the stage at Heaven Above. And like they say: and then there were none.

So now there is a well below average line up of ladies.

But if you are happy just to have a drink and a chat then the bar is decent enough with cheap beer and friendly ladies. A couple having learnt their customer care skills from Hot & Cold.

  Review July 2010: A Quick Drink

Whilst never really full the bar seems to generated a steady customer base. Probably those like me who find it a pleasant bar to have a quick drink rather than as a serious girl hunting bar.

There are now perhaps a dozen dancers of which 3 or 4 dance at a time. Topless or bikini clad is the dress code. A little below average but there are still a few that sometimes troop out clasping the hand of a new found boyfriend.

The dancers are happy to approach in search of a lady drink and can get quite hands on friendly if one so desires, although few customers seem to want to partake.

The drinks are cheap and the staff are friendly.

Well what can I say, I've tried all the go go bars in Soi 7/8 but always go back to this little haven...

The music is quite good, but who give a monkey's about music when its well stocked full of eye candy, I have found the staff to be helpful and courteous.

Well I usually stay in the hotel opposite for a couple of night at the start of my stay, Eastiny Palace, you have to pay a fine to take your little Thai darling back, but its a good clean hotel. Its my personnel choice...

Anyway where was I.... Yes I've used this establishment for 3 or 4 years and is usually great, I've taken many a little flower out of this place back to my honeymoon suite opposite.

To be honest I don't notice the prices, maybe am a champagne Charlie, like I give a dam. I've taken many of my friends to his place and never heard of anybody complain of the prices.

The trick with this place is to splash a little cash at first, you know the old Thai motto, no money, no honey . Then when you have you little Thai darling of you choice, you ask to take her up stairs to the pool bar up stairs. I like this spot because its nice and quiet and you can get a good oggle at the birds before they slide down the fireman's pole and start their shift...

Ohh, small word of warning, on my last trip to this establishment, my friend, Kenny Wenny, nearly fell down the fireman's pole whilst throwing ping pong balls to the ladies down stairs.

The last time I was in I was already with my Thai girlfriend of 6 years, she bats both ways, so she made her choice and the 3 of us went back to the honeymoon suite and we spent the rest of the night looking at my vast stamp collection. The next morning we spent that brass rubbing..... It was nice to watch our little friend doing a Bambi out the door, I think the brass rubbing wore her out.

  Review April 2011: Disappointing

Sexy Girls A-GoGo has proven disappointing over the last couple of visits.

The previously reported issue of too many girls dancing too long still exists but on my last visits the girls were all wearing too many clothes too.

This seems now seems to be one of those gogos modelled on Happy. The girls dance for ages and the customers sit alone, sipping profitable drinks, whilst waiting for wonder.

But the Happy model rather requires top notch girls to make it all work. Sexy Girls does have a good share of attractive girls, but not quite good enough to make up for the overdressing and lack of opportunity for good personal customer care.

There are a couple of naked girls who work the Jacuzzi but it doesn't really make up for the rather underwhelming customer experience.

  Review December 2010: Dance Too Long

Sexy Girls A-GoGo has got a fair bit going for it. In particular, it has a fair few decent looking girls, especially for a small bar.

There's also a Jacuzzi with the usual naked soapers, and the bar is now quite spacious. There is a reasonably priced draft beer and a good service team.

The only real downer is that the girls are set on a ludicrously long dancing spell over the course of a two level stage. I do not really know what the top level is in aid of, it is too high to provide much point to downstairs viewers.

And because there are too many dancers packed on the stage, there aren't really enough left over for hostessing duties. So the likelihood is too high of a lonely drink whilst 'waiting for wonder'.

A bit of a shame really as the girls are quite friendly in the short time they have available for hostessing.

  Review May 2010: Narrow Minded

Sexy Girls A-GoGo has re-opened after a brief downtime while it was knocked though into a next door unit.

The end result is that Sexy Girls has become the widest narrow bar in Pattaya.

Rather Bizarrely, the bar has retained the bench seating especially designed for the previous very narrow bar. Previously there was not even enough width for a foot rest, so the drinks tables were ingeniously designed to provide a crossbar acting as the foot rest. These bench seats still run down either side of the newly expanded bar.

The old long strip stage has been replaced by a smart curvy central stage with the addition of an upper level stage with a glass floor.

There is also a large Jacuzzi but this still needs a bit of building work.

So for the moment the bar is more or less the same as before except wider. And although it obviously allows for more customers it is actually worse than before as one is a fair bit further away from the dancers. The dancing on the upper level of the stage is a waste of space gimmick, as the girls are too high and the lighting is too dark.

There were 10 girls dancing, 7 on the lower stage and 3 on the upper.  There were some pretty girls on stage too, but they were all bikini clad, hopefully just as short term measure. The girls were dancing 10 songs which is nothing short of ludicrous for anyone waiting for a girl to return from her dance stint.

I rather guess that the aircon is still the same as for the narrow bar as it was getting a little uncomfortably warm.

There were a few friendly girls offering a bit of hands on fun, but the prettier girls seemed to be hiding on the upper balcony maybe to avoid the hands on customer care part of the work.

  Review May 2010: More Sexy

It looks like the bar has got plans to expand having taken over half of the next door bar. When I stopped by the main bar was still the same narrow bar it has always been. But there was a new space that had appeared at the back for toilets or changing rooms or something.

Perhaps as investment for an expansion the bar had taken on 3 or 4 very pretty girls last spotted at New Living Dolls One.

The bar seemed to be doing quite well with several girls extracting lady drinks from smiling customers. I have a feeling the bar would do even better with a few more of the girls assigned to customer care rather than the overlong 7 song dance roster that the girls and customers endure.

No spare ladies for me so I checked bin after the traditional single beer.

  Review Jan 2009: Law of Averages

I haven't got past the first drink at this bar for quite a while now.

Mostly they just have too many girls dancing and not enough schmoozing with the customers. I really don't know why bars like to have a high proportion of girls dancing, especially at the B grade bars, where the girls are not exactly eye candy.

The bar likes to have about 5 dancers on the central narrow stage and one on the balcony. They dance either bikini clad or topless. There is also a Jacuzzi but this is just for show, not participation.

Other customers have been a bit luckier in tying down a girl for company so surely there are a few customers who will rate the bar. But the law of averages will dictate that this will be a minority.

Drinks prices are reasonable with a draft beer at 65 Baht.

Silver Star is now closed for 3 months for renovations. A few of the dancers and staff are now working in the sister bar in Soi 7.

There's no sign of any work there and the bar has been closed for many months. It is either closed for good or else will be used just when high season demand justifies it.

As of May 15, Silver Star 1 A-GoGo on Soi 8, now has enough sexy naked girls to run hands-on shows in their Jacuzzi starting at 9pm.

They are also doing lesbian shows.

Well worth the visit.

  Review February 2011: Junior Partner

The original Silver Star has become the junior partner of the three Silver Star Bars. It is still in the same mould though, just scaled down a bit.

On my last visit there were about a dozen dancers on duty with half dancing at any one time. There were some reasonably attractive girls on show and they weren't wearing too many clothes.

The girls were making a good effort to connect with the customers, both on and off stage. They were unsurprisingly a bit more keen on seeking out holidaymakers rather than expats though (as distinguished by attitude to the ping pong balls being pushed by the service staff).

The small scale operation probably makes the bar a bit hit or miss, but the positive attitude makes it worth a look. The sister bar on the next soi is a more reliable bet. It is quite similar, but it has more girls and more momentum.

  Review April 2010: Glum

The Silver Stars in general have never really provided me with many worthwhile visits but I am not really sure exactly why.

The bar has quite a few dancers and several were attractive There is comfortable bench seating arranged around the wall overlooking the central stage and there is also a Jacuzzi. There is a reasonable draft beer at 65 Baht.

Perhaps the warning signs are that the bar packs too many girls on stage and they do a very long dance stint. Certainly didn't seem to make for many smiling girls. It is always more fun when the majority of the girls are out carousing for lady drinks and bar fines, they then get a little more animated to look after the customers.

It looks like the bar could be quite lively at times, just never when I've been there.

  Review March 2009: Odd Stacked Against Them

The bar has been around for a fair time and must be doing something right.

Perhaps the secret is having a fair team of above average girls. Probably the number one asset for any gogo.

From there it goes downhill a bit. There were 8 girls dancing in bikinis or topless on the central stage. At the end of a track they would all shuffle around one place so the dance stint must be 8 songs. A bit of a long wait if you are enjoying a girl's company.

Doesn't seem to be much of a problem to me though, as the girls ignore me, as they do most of the customers in the bar.

The bar is also into the silly tip seeking move of sellotaping small coins into 5 baht stacks. As a matter of principle I take the coins and later donate them to a more deserving cause.

  Review July 2008: Smiling

The bar is not on my favourites list and so it has been a while since the last visit.

I noticed that the shower cubicle had become a Jacuzzi. It is a far more attractive idea to be out in the open rather than hiding away behind closed shower doors.

The girls on stage were actually good at casting their eyes around the room and smiling at customers catching their gaze.

There were some attractive girls around, but once off stage they went in no hassle mode. They left the lonely customers to their vacant stare at the dancing girls.

There wasn't anything drastically wrong, its just that other bars a bit better (and a bit cheaper).

  Review Nov 2007: 9 Songs

The bar has had a bit of a make over and is unsurprisingly similar to Silver Star 2 in the next soi.

There is a largish central stage surrounding by bench seating and stools. The benches are a little narrow and one tends to feel a little exposed as there are no substantial tables or drinks ledges to hide behind.

There is now a shower cubicle but the glass doors block the viewing to most of the bar. No doubt those in the seats nearby get a good view. Two girls were doing their thing inside. Surely can never be such a good idea as an open Jacuzzi as the glass stifles any chance of interaction with the customers.

The central stage was packed with dancers who were generally topless. It is certainly one of those bars where you check bin when your girls goes to dance as the girls were doing a 9 song dancing stint.

There were plenty of pretty girls in the bar but they didn't seem to be making much effort to circulate whilst waiting for their dance stint. Maybe it was just little too early.

Seems to have potential but it didn't click on this visit.

  News Nov 2007: Renovated

The bar has now re-opened after taking time out for renovation. There is a new design and a water feature of  shower cubicle which has the problem of steaming up. The bar has taken a random selection of girls from Silver Star 2 in Soi 7

  Review April 2011: Busy

Silver Star 2 is still the pick of the Soi 7/8 gogos.

The momentum of success ensures that the bar can employ a stage full of stage full of attractive dancers in various stages of undress. The dancers rotate one place per song and it can be quite a long wait.

There are plenty of girls on customer service duties and they can be quite hands on.

For those that appreciate a Jacuzzi show then there are usually a couple of girls cavorting and entertaining those in the ringside seats.

The bar always seems quite busy and most customers seem to have a good time.

On a slightly negative side, the bar sanctions stupidities such as toilet tips and change that is returned in piles of 1 baht coins sellotaped together.

But on the whole the GoGo is quite a success.

  Review October 2010: Surprising

The bar till surprises me that it is consistently popular and generally a fun place to go.

The reason it surprises me is that it has high drinks prices and a fairly hasslesome attitude to tips, being a Thai run place. (Not to such an extent that it is unduly troublesome).

I guess that if there was a decent farang bar in the vicinity, then it would do very well, but there isn't.

But as it stands, the momentum is with Silver Star 2. The girls follow the customers (and vice versa). So for the moment the bar can command a good line up of dancers. And really that is 9/10ths of the reason for the amount of customers.

Perhaps another good reason for the success is that air con bars are pretty thin on the ground on Soi 7 and every so often, beer bar crawlers may fancy an air con break.

But for whatever reason, Silver Star 2 remains a popular bar with a goodly amount of attractive dancers and a fun atmosphere.

  Review May 2010: Liveliest in the Area

The bar seems to do a very good trade and seems the most consistently busy gogo in the Soi7/8 locale.

A fair amount of dancers are on duty in the bar, plenty enough to make the main stage seem pretty crowded. There are usually a couple of teams of gogo dancers in bikinis or topless. Every so often there is a nominal show, which basically means more standard dancing but without the knickers.

There is also a Jacuzzi, home to a couple of naughty girls. There are stools around the Jacuzzi for a little audience participation, but usually the girls are performing for those seating in the bench seats around the walls.

The quantity of girls seems to generate a fun atmosphere which is appreciated by the customers.

The bar is Thai run and a little bit prone to rather ruthless tip extraction, but on my latest visit everyone was well behaved and I had a good time with an ex-Catz friend.

The lady drinks were a bit pricey at 130 Baht, but if supply and demand governs prices then the bar is probably more justified in top end prices than many others.

  Review July 2009: 2 Star

I think this bar has found some secret way of identifying newbies. They seem to instantly recognise me as a critic and give me the cold shoulder. But somehow they sense a newbie and send in all and sundry to pump the new customer for lady drinks etc.

The bar is generally quite lively with plenty of girls and more than a fair share of customers.

There are usually about 10 girls on the central stage generally topless or bikini clad. There are another dozen or so hostessing whilst waiting for their turn to dance. There is also a team keeping the Jacuzzi staffed with 2 girls at a time.

Every so often the main stage is cleared for 'a show' which is basically the best looking girls in the bar dancing naked.

Not really hitting many of the ideals that I look for in a gogo but it seems pretty popular all the same.

  Review Feb 2009: Bronze Star

The bar always seems quite lively with about half the girls dancing on stage or in the Jacuzzi.

The dress code for the dancers is bikini clad or topless depending on the wishes of the dancer. They seem to attract a few above average girls too.

There's also a traditionally naughty Jacuzzi show perhaps entertaining the customers set back against the wall rather than poolside.

Every seems fine but not a bar where I have been tempted to stay very long. I am not quite sure why, just never seem to get the luck of the draw. Perhaps they still remember the time when I refused to tip the toilet boy.

  Review June 2008: Toilet Jockey

Probably just one of those things, but I have rarely been entertained in this bar. I think I must have offended someone in the past and they still remember to this day.

If there is no-one to chat to then one is left with just the dancing to watch and that is a little below average. There are a fair amount of girls though, so a few will hit the mark.

There is a Jacuzzi water feature but it seemed more for watching than participating.

And if you are not really enjoying yourself the expectation of a tip for the toilet jockey is even more irritating.

  Review September 2011: Mostly Battened Down

I stopped by a little early and encountered a pretty average GoGo.

It was not quite as small as I was expecting from previous comments. There were 5 girls dancing on small podiums spread across the floor area between the two rows of bench seating. There are comfortable stools dotted around these podium stages.

I was unimpressed by the standard dance wear . It is styled on a hardly sexy sailor uniform but involves the girls being well covered up by blouse and solid bra. However there were two girls revealing all, and they were well impressive.

It seems a feature of the MASH/Submarine/Office group that the girls are mostly overdressed, but there are always a few undressed girls as a bit of a concession.

Submarine is otherwise basically sound with reasonable drinks prices and customer centric management.

The service girls made a good effort to be friendly too.

I was delighted to see Soi LK Metro is now a gogo hub, and now, at any rate, with quality matching most places in Walking Street.

I got particularly warm welcomes in MASH and Submarine, the latter a cute and kitschy design I really liked - and with its zany bunch of girls, deserves to do well.

Tahitian Queen on on Beach Rd has certainly risen from the ashes. Called in at 6pm on Wednesday and it was wall to wall people.

Tried to count the girls but I gave up when I reached 30.

1 pretty one attached herself to me but it was very short lived. Within seconds I got you buy me dink I did and and shot glass arrived, from service girls hand straight down her neck and empty glass back to service girl. A few seconds of hands on fun and it was we go room. When I declined the offer she was off like a shot looking for richer pickings.

  Review, May 2009: Expensive

How on earth does this bar get away with selling near the most expensive draft beer in Pattaya. The 110 Baht is simply not value for the disappointing entertainment.

The girls were overdressed in bikinis and were not much more than shuffling to the 70's & 80's rock music.

And when not dancing they were doing their best to ignore me even when sitting close by.

Anyway don't listen to me, I am a little biased against non-sexy overpriced bars. Better to take advice from those that like that sort of thing, there were plenty in the bar that seemed to be enjoying it.

  Review, December 2008: Chatty

TQ 1 is a very popular bar, it always seems full.

And yet it has few attractions for this particular reviewer. The girls are overdressed in bikinis, there are large sections of seating with only an end on view of the long thin stage, and one tends to be either ignored or hassled by the girls.

The reason for the popularity is more cultural than due to the gogo aspects. The bar has become a meeting place for farangs who simply like a chat with fellow farangs. This seems to be particularly an American thing.

Anyway you can't argue with a popular bar. If you fancy a chat with your mates, then get down there.

  Review by Dmitri, March 2008: Still Smoky and Full

Still smoky and a full place. It is a shame such a small place gets packed with smokers leaving no air to breathe for others. I had a real headache just after one hour.

People stay in front of you waiting for you to leave to get a place, kind of stressful.

Lady drinks are now 110, not 100 as previously reported.

  Review June 2007: Too Smoky

This bar always seems to turn me into Mr Grumpy. The bar always seems full and often there is no chance of a comfy seat. On my last visit I found a suspiciously vacant seat only to find out why...the chain smokers at the next table.

The replacement location was a stool out of the way of anything much interesting. The girls dance in bikinis but most of the customers are enjoying a bit of banter with their mates and don't seem so interested in the girls anyway.

It is always a very popular bar, so perhaps one day I will get to see why.

  Review January 2012: Nearly Coyote

The bar has had a bit of a makeover since I last stopped by. The flooring has been redone, there is now decent bench seating and the toilets are the best in town.

It looks pretty good but really not so different to before. The bar missed a trick with the bench seating though, it is not located where the stage is. Bench seating is so important when it comes to a taking a few beers. As far as I am concerned stools are one drink and go sort of seats.

The bar was well filled with girls and there was a fair sprinkling of customers.

There were 4 dancers on stage and it was not an impressive show. The dancing was boring, and overdressed. It was lucky that one girl was wearing a bikini top or else I would have classed it as a coyote bar. The bar seems to have a fair amount of traditionally attired coyotes. Then there are the pretend gogo dancers who wear bikinis, but only over the top of solid bras. Then there are just a few real gogo dancers in bikinis. There's nothing less. There were a few decent looking dancers awaiting their turn but it was all too draggy to want to make an effort to stay and see.

There was a reasonable draft beer at 65 Baht and there are loads of service girls to make sure of prompt attention. There was a girl circulating the audience with ping pong balls but she was not pushy.

I guess most regulars go for the rock videos, and maybe a game of pool, rather than the dancers. Not a bar I'll rush back to until I hear that the girls have shed a few clothes. I rather fear I may be gone some time.

  Review January 2011: Still Popular

As always the bar was doing a good trade on a January weekday early evening.

There were about 6 girls dancing all in a lingerie bikini affair. There were about another half dozen or so waiting their turn to dance. There was one very attractive girl and there were a couple more who could get a job on Walking Street.

There were also countless hostesses dotted around the bar.

But somehow the GoGo aspect of the bar doesn't really seem to be the focus of attention  of the customers. I think it is something along the lines of TQ 1 or TQ 2 where it is primarily a meeting point for a community. Maybe Danish bikers. Just a guess after there seemed to be a certain amount of appreciation for a Danish rock act appearing on the playlist.

Anyway the girls didn't seem to be particularly interactive, so I enjoyed a beer's worth of Tom Petty and went off to seek a bar more focused on GoGo entertainment.

  Review July 2010: Victoria's Secret

As per normal the bar was reasonably full with customers. Always a bit of surprise to me but it seems pretty consistent.

Another minor surprise was that the dancing girls have a new uniform idea that I have rarely seen before. They were dressed in striking red underwear. Not your usual knickers and bikini top, but in knickers, corsets, bras, suspender belts, negligee, the works!.

Perhaps a little of an over exaggeration but way too much covering for my tastes, though I can image there may be many who would appreciate this variation. Me, I was wondering if it still qualified as a GoGo bar where I consider the maximum clothing allowed should be a bikini.

Anyway there were 6 or so girls dancing on the square central stage and plenty more dancers, sitting waiting their turn. And in terms of talent, there were a few that appealed, which is a better standard than that of yesteryear.

None of the prettier girls seemed on the lookout for customers to drink with though, so I didn't stay long. I spent the remainder of the time wondering why the place was so popular. In the end, the only thing I found worthy of particular praise was the collection of music videos. There were some real gems, of obscure but excellent rock.

  Review Dec 2009: Large Staff

Tim A-GoGo perpetually baffles me. It has been going a long time and employs an enormous cast of service girls, hostesses and dancers. Yet I never find any particular reason to stay beyond a single beer.

There are usually half a dozen dancers on stage who are always overdressed in bikinis. There aren't many that arouse much interest but there have been a few attractive girls milling round though on my last visits.

The seating is limited to uncomfortable stools and the best bet is to find one where the wall can be used as a back rest.

The girls don't seem very interested in customers unless someone is recognised as a newbie. Then they are sure to receive a fair bit of attention.

The only obvious attraction is an interesting selection of rock videos played on the large screen TVs.

But really I don't see how they attract enough custom to justify the large staff. Perhaps I'm missing something.

  Review May 2009: The Wrong Type of Nibbles

As I was shown to my seat, a couple of cuties were turfed out of my designated stool. I thought things were looking up, but they found some dark corner of the bar to hide in, and I never spotted them again.

The dancing girls were average, and were overdressed in bikinis. There were 5 on the stage at any one time. The music is well chosen with some very classic rock videos and some less well known bands, but still good tracks.

However live rock tracks can be very long and anyone waiting for 5 songs worth of dancing for their girl to return, would be waiting a long time. It doesn't really inspire much in the way of dancing either

There were plenty of girls waiting their turn to dance and these are supplemented by a fair few hostesses.

It seemed strange then, that the girl who tried her luck with me, tried the old trick of approaching one song before she was due to dance. Never works with me, I never buy a drink for at least the first track.

The girl's little trick introduces the low key hassle factor that's associated with the bar. The service staff do regular rounds of trying to sell extras, in particular, vodka shots, ping pong balls and nibbles (unfortunately of the potato chip variety). The hassle was pretty minor though, a simple 'mai ow krup' was sufficient to move them on to bother somebody else.

But it would take one of the cuties mentioned earlier to persuade me to stay for a second beer. Something that has yet to happen for me in this bar.

  Review Nov 2008: Still Doing Well

I was taken aback by a friendly welcome from the Thai managers and wasn't really expecting cordialities when entering a bar and I'm not sure I returned the greeting.

The bar boasts an enormous number of hostess and/or service girls. If they had a half as many, it would still be well staffed. Perhaps it gets very crowded sometimes.

The dancers were all bikini clad but their are now about half a dozen girls that are pretty enough to hold their own in Walking Street. Still a fair few oldies though.

The hostess service girls were friendly enough but I prefer it when the dancers do the hostessing.

Didn't spot any hassle to sell stuff such as munchies and raffle tickets, or indeed, ping pong balls. Perhaps they have sensibly eased off on the hard sell.

The music is still the same with well chosen, but often repeated, oldie farang rock videos.

  January 2012: Worlds Apart

World Wide is a featureless GoGo that seems to offer little, but keeps hanging in there.

On my latest visit there was a batch of 8 below average bikini clad dancers. However these were followed in slow procession by a reasonably attractive batch of topless dancers. I think the bar operates in waves so that the door staff can be on higher alert when the topless girls are on.

The only customer interaction is reserved for newbies, and then their interactive treatment is to get mobbed by a couple of dancers and a couple of service girls for good measure.

But really I have no expectations of either a visual treat nor a friendly reception so enjoying a relaxing bottle of 70 Baht bottled beer isn't really too bad. Maybe it helps keep the bar ticking over. But it may be another year before I bother dropping by again.

  Review December 2010: A Wider View

Sometime one simply has to take an alternative view about what makes a good bar.

The bar has an excellent location, being just one of the two GoGos directly on Beach Road.

It is also a good halfway point when doing a stroll from 2nd Road down Soi 8 and then back up Soi 7. Their aircon is certainly worth stopping off for.

The bar also opens a bit earlier than the other GoGos in the area so sometimes it is the only aircon available in the whole locality.

It has a reasonably priced draft beer that undercuts the other GoGos at the Beach Road end of the Soi7/8.

But...

If you are looking for a GoGo to hook up with girls, then this is the worst in the area. The girls are not the slightest bit friendly to anyone who looks like they may know the Pattaya ropes. And they descend on a newbie like a pack of hyenas.

  Review May 2010: Swarms of Girls

I think that the Beach Road location has resulted in quite a strange sort of GoGo.

If you are after a bit of sexy fun then the Silver Stars just round the corners in each direction are a much safer bet. Presumably because of good passing trade the bar seems to target newbies rather than regulars.

The bar has a traditional newbie show with a few boring pussy tricks and slightly more erotic strip shows with costumes such as the Hawaiian garlands.

The bar also has a fair number of girls allowing 8 girls to dance at a time on the central stage. They join in pairs, so end up dancing for a very sensible roster of 4 songs. There is usually quite a range of girls, but there are a few that will must attract a decent number of bar fines.

The bar seems to have a knack of recognising newbies, who get the swarm of girls treatment, all clamouring for lady drinks. The regulars get left to drink alone.

Perhaps strange for a bar that targets holiday makers, the drinks prices are very reasonable with bottled beer at 70 Baht (just gone up a touch). Possibly a legacy of the sister (beer) bars in the Soi 7/8 area doing such a good trade on the back of cheap drinks.

Although not a place I would recommend for sexy fun, it is a decent enough venue for a beer and aircon break on a beach stroll.

But for heavens sake don't get taken in by buying drinks for the swarm of girls. Keep your tips for girls that give you good service. You will end up with more respect and more fun.

  Review August 2009: Still No Hassle

I generally pop in for an aircon break whilst strolling along the beach. It is still one of the few bars where it is almost a certainty that the girls will quietly ignore me.

They seem attuned to newbies though, they will surely flock around.

The girls are quite often topless when dancing these days, but this comes with an elaborate system of door staff insuring that those who shouldn't see naked girls, don't.

The drinks are reasonably priced and there are usually enough girls dancing to ensure a few worthy of a gander. The girls dance 8 on the stage, dancing for 4 songs, which seems a good arrangement. There are plenty of other girls waiting their urn to dance but they mostly sit and chat amongst themselves rather than circulate amongst the customers.

A pleasant enough place to sit quietly and make plans for an evening, but not really a great place to find a date

  Review March 2009: No Hassle

Since my last visit the bar seems to have lost the very pretty showgirls. But such ebbs and flows are the nature of the business. However the bar still has a fair few girls and seems to be doing a steady trade.

There are usually 8 girls dancing for 4 songs. They have a wave of topless girls and then a wave of bikini clad girls. When the topless girls are taking their turn, the door minders are carefully vigilant.

The girls are average but that means there are a few attractive choices.

When I first used to frequent the bar a few years ago, both the dancers and waitresses would hustle for a drink. But nowadays no hassle to the point of loneliness is the likely fate for customers. The girls seem to prefer their own company in a couple of reserved seating bays at the front of the bar.

Beer is well cheap at 50 Baht for a draft and 60 Baht for some bottled beers.

  Review July 2008: Private Booth

The bar seems to have improved a bit of late with a better crowd than for some time. Perhaps this to do with the introduction of topless dancing and some sexy shows.

I'm not really sure if the management are entirely at ease with this concept, as they have a very watchful man on the door when anything naughty is going on inside.

There were a couple of very attractive show girls on my last visit. But when the had done their stint they would hide away with the Thai DJ in his little booth. Anyone would think that farang customers weren't 'hansum men'. Surely not the case.

There are an awful lot of service staff on hand, far more than necessary. I think their job was to provide a dedicated one on one hassle service for anyone gullible enough to fall for buying excess lady drinks. A polite refusal was enough to keep them at bay though, so not a big problem.

If I could have prised the cuties out of the DJ booth I would happily have stayed for a short time, but as it was, I left after a pleasant couple of beers.

Festivities bar fine. Many, if not, gogos charge higher barfines on what they consider special days. Every bar has a different definition of which days are special though. And some special days are even more special (expensive) than others.

The reviews are those that I come across on the web, in guide books, from contributors and of course from my own visits. Reviewers may be unreasonably harsh and bar owners may present a rosy picture of their bars...so don't take everything at face value...go and see for yourself.

Nudity cannot be guaranteed and whenever the Pattay police are on the prowl the girls cover up. Closing times are sporadic depending upon local enforcement. 2am or 3am is now the norm.

Anyone with Middle Eastern or South Asian dark skin should be aware that they may receive a rather negative welcome. 90% of gogo bars have unspecified entry restrictions which can be hard to tie down as different people have had different receptions. Unwelcome faces will be told at the door that the bar is suddenly a members only club. Discriminatory maybe, but it is for real, it is based on experience, and it is supported by those who care about the welfare of the girls.

Just a couple of times people have had a bad experience in a bar which is perhaps the fault of an individual employee rather than bar policy. More often then not, the bar would be more than happy to deal with offsite problems even when it is not strictly their problem. To try and be fair to the bars, offsite complaints about employees can only be considered for inclusion if they have first been presented to the bar involved.
