Listing the bars of Pattaya

The following reviews are those that I come across on the web, in guide books, from contributors and of course from my own visits. Reviewers may be unreasonably harsh and bar owners may present a rosy picture of their bars...so don't take everything at face value...go and see for yourself.

2 Donna Bar

Jomtien Complex

Thappraya Road
 2 Donna Bar

New beer bar for August 2007

Review from connections of Two Donnas, March 2008: Very Welcoming

The two partners are Joy and Dow who are at the bar every day and night, they will sit down and introduce themselves to all new customers and are not shy about buying a drink (or accepting one!!). Both are pretty well known in Jomtien and seem to know everyone that comes in or passes the bar.

No pool table but all the live English Premier League games are shown.

Prices are lower than most bars, (except next door where drinks are almost given away) beer 50-70 baht, shorts pretty cheap and lady drinks are the standard 90 baht.

Loads of girls, 15 at the moment, nothing too stunning, but a few are pretty cute all can talk English, some young some not so young and one Katoey, all the girls are pretty good crack and up for a laugh, especially if you go inside the bar and close the doors.....

The younger cute ones disappear most night before 10.00 so get there early for a better choice

Barfines are the standard 300 baht, no ST rooms but the girls will take you round the corner if you want,

Verdict, nice atmosphere good reasonable priced drinks and a good bunch of girls with two owners who will make you very welcome.

  News Oct 2006: New

There's  a new bar on Thappraya Road a few paces from Dong Tan police station.

The Beach Club is owned by the same individual that owns BJ3, Lucky Star, and a host of other bars and GoGo's. It is managed by Mike.

The Beach Club is an open air bar with friendly staff, very friendly prices and good music played at a reasonable volume.

The theme of the bar is unique and we hope to become the home of those looking for something just a little different than the normal beer bar.

Daily drink specials, free wireless internet, and pool tables, will round out the fun at the Beach Club.

  Review June 2008: No Kisses

I drifted past the girls out the outside beer bar and smiled at an attractive girl. Unfortunately my selection was trumped by a senior lady who was definitely not to my spec.

I asked if she would mind sending in a younger girl and I think she took umbrage. Then just as storybook characters warn you to take care of what you wish for, my replacement girl was young and pretty but totally uncommunicative. Proved a total waste of time and there will be another age before I visit again.

  Review Sep 2007: Snubbed

The bar has now created a beer bar immediately outside of the main aircon bar. But in need of the aircon I skipped past the girls and a reasonably attractive girl followed me in.

The bar is large but was only catering to 4 stalwarts at the centre bar.

My hostess was totally not interested in my attempts at conversation and she eventually drifted off out of boredom to rejoin her mates outside.

I finished my beer and left pronto...noting to avoid this unfriendly bar for the foreseeable future.

  January 2005:

Re-opened after renovation

  November 2005:

Choose your lady carefully in this bar ! The skinny, incompetent wreck of a "girl" I went upstairs with must have lifted some grey ones from my meagre wallet.

The sole upstairs room is very grotty, next to a building site and the stairs to it are almost vertical. The shower is off the short time room and is also crappy.

If you insist on a visit - TAKE YOUR WALLET with you into the shower room. Better still - there are many other cleaner and cheaper places around than this German run bar.

  May 2005:

All day bar with a dozen girls sitting outside waiting on customers.

The bar is decorated with a blue theme and has a pool table. Music is English/American from a couple of decades ago.

As to whether it is good or bad that more depends upon your interaction with your girl of choice.

From the bar, Feb 2006: Jamming

The Bristol Music Bar is situated in a quiet Soi on Jomtien Beach Road, It’s main attraction is hosting a Jamming Session each and every Sunday from 7:00pm where anybody can bring an instrument and have a Jam with like minded musicians. The Bar supports the Camillian Society based in Rayong who care for children with HIV and Aids and so far since September 2006 have raised over 120,000 Baht.

The Bar, during the week is where a visitor or Expat can come and relax without the Hassle associated with other bars as they do not employ “Ladies” to take care of you. Come and have a game of chess / backgammon and listen to some of their 200 music DVD’s and or watch major sports events with their in house satellite system supported by 4 TV’s around the bar.

Beer Chang is sold at 45 Baht. This bar is a great place to go to if you would just like to chat and not be hassled by the usual interruptions, not to mention listening to great live music on a Sunday night.

Review April 2008: Enticing But Unsatisfying

The bar seems to be under new management with a fair few girls on welcome duty dressed attractively in pleated skirts and blouses.

I was enticed inside but it was a bit of a waste of time, the girl was simply not into anything that naughty uniform may suggest

  Review Oct 2007: Same Same

I first ran into one of Kevin's places when it was the Fresh Orange in Pattaya. Found a lovely lady there that I kept the rest of the trip and then ran into several times later. I got some insight and found out he had a hard time keeping ladies. Hard boss to work for at cost to the running of a good bar.

I paid a visit to the Jomtien bar on my last trip. Same Same.

  March 2006: Frayed

Tempers seemed pretty frayed and it was not a pleasant environment to drink in. Maybe just a bad evening.

Review from jj, March 2006: Cosy Corner

The Cosy Bar is on the outside of Jomtien Plaza across from the Hanuman Statue circle, is an interesting and variable place.

It is a bit odd how the personality of some bars depends solely on the gals who work there while others have dominant managers who keep things on a more even keel. Cosy Bar is the former.

When the website was constructed a few months ago, the crop of girls pictured there were cute and extremely friendly. Somehow they have all wandered off. The current crop of 4-6 are considerably less fun.

Owner Kevin's livelihood seems to be predicated on his pool nights and Brit pool-playing pals. Everyone else who finds the bar is 'profit'. He also has never figured out how to open the email on his website, so don't bother asking a question.

One unique element of Cosy Bar  is the 'cosy curtained corners'. Just past the pool table and inside the bar are two bench-seat areas with curtains. Inviting a couple of gals into the 'cosy curtained corner' can be an interesting experience, just short of an short time room visit. They tend to be very un-inhibited behind the curtain.

Cosy Bar can be a fun evening or a total bust depending on who is working or still available.

Large open shophouse Beer bar

Review by Steve, Feb 2006: Moderately Cool

A busy place with loud music, it can get quite crowded. Lots of ladies working here, far too many it sometimes seems. Very variable quality too.

They seem to have a problem keeping their beer cold enough for my tastes. ‘Heineken yen yen’ often results in a modestly cool bottle of beer. But given the number of ladies, as long as you will buy them a drink you will never be short of someone to talk to here (or at least practise sign language with).

Too many mangy dogs around the bar for my liking, but you get a lot of traders passing through and this is a good place to buy pirated DVD’s. Or Rolexes. Or just about anything else. You only get bar stools to sit on at the tables, or even less comfortable stools if you sit by the roadside (too much noise and too many exhaust fumes).

Compared with the comfy cushioned seats available in many other bars in this area of Jomtien, I am always surprised how busy the place is.

Review April 2008: Geared for Pool

I have popped in a couple of times of late and found a pretty girl or two for a chat.

The bar suffers a from a lack of comfortable seating as it seems geared up mostly for pool players.

There is a convenient short time room but be aware that the staff bang on the door punctually when your time is up.

Review by jj, August 2006: First time, last time

Jomtien's recently opened DK Bar is a typical indoor beer/ST bar with nothing to distinguish it from the hundreds if other typical indoor beer/ST bars in Pattaya. Denizens of the SN Palace baron the same site would never recognize the place. The Canadian owner obviously spent a fortune in renovations. How he will recover it is anyone's guess.

The only thing left from the SN are a couple of the ladies. Having been a semi-regular at SN, they latched on to me immediately. All I got in return for 2 ladies drinks (75 B each) was an earful of complaints about the life of a bar-girl and the current lack of customers in Jomtien. Even though I was the only customer, the owner's GF/mamasan refused to turn down the overly loud music so I could have a normal conversation with the ladies. Then something happened. An second customer entered. He was obviously a regular at DK as one of my ladies-of-the-hour immediately departed for his area. I immediately departed the bar.

First time, last time.

Review May 2006: Ventured In, Ventured Out

Always happy to venture in a new aircon bar. Unfortunately the girl who followed me in was not to my taste so I ventured out again.

They have a couple of 20 Baht pool tables a few easy chairs and a few stools at the bar.

It was pretty quiet when I visited but it was only about 7pm. My coke was 50 Baht.

Review from David, May 2007: Uninspiring

Despite a useable location at Jomtien Soi 9, this bar is 100% boring.

The UK boss has possibilities he seems to prefer to ignore. Not a place for a lively chat (unless you speak Isaan) or a cuddle.

Drink prices a bit over the odds. Menu uninspiring.

News from the bar, Oct 2006: Fantastic Bar!

Now under new British management. Barbecue every Monday, Wednesday and Friday at 7pm. Fantastic bar, great food, good prices, great ladies. Friendly Manager from Manchester, England. But I would say that as I am the new Manager!

Review from David, July 2006: Staggered Next Door

There used to be a bar on Soi 9 Jomtien called Love Birds. It was next door to Drunks and Dare-a-Licks which has now moved into the Love Birds shophouse and been sold out to yet another guest house.

Drunks and Dare-a-Licks ambience somewhat improved since last visit some months ago but no comfy sofas or cuddlies.

Still a bit grim and some hardline boozers there today. One of them staggered out past the WC and was fully visible taking a leak at an outside wall. quel finesse!

Review by Swanks, Sept 2006: Turned Down Turned up Turned On

The management have listend to there customers and reduced the volume (With a brilliant Philippina Band). What a joy!

Eight of us enjoyed a really good Sunday lunch last week . Drank too much, eat too much, and did a bit of fornication!

Really nice to be able to go back there!

Review by Swanks, August 2006: Speaking Volumes

I think the free food on Sundays idea is great! Some pints with the lads. A laugh and a joke with them and the girls. Great fun, and if someone feeds you as well....What more can you ask?

The management, very kindly, have employed a really good live band and have kept the drinks prices at the same level. Are we ungrateful enough to say something if wrong? Well just one thing really.

The music volume puts an end to any hope of a conversation. I am sure the band are really good and I enjoyed hearing them play, FROM OUTSIDE SCOOBYS!

There is anything up to 10 of us who "Turn out" on a Sunday. WE like a laugh, a joke and a bit of fun with the girls! If they give us a few snacks in a place---Ex-pat heaven. We tried taking refuge at the very back of the bar only to find some prat had put an even bigger speaker there!

The waitress couldn't hear our beer order the first time. We had a stroke of luck then and the band finished its set, piped pop music at the old Coyote level, great!

Then some total moron turned it up to an even louder volume than the band.

Exit ,stage left, to Scoobys to spend our Baht there and listen to the very good music from the new Jomtien sanctuary of peace.

El Coyotee is a bar , er conversation and a laugh with your mates if you know your market. Not a night club or a go-go bar. Before you ask! Most of the diminishing customers were older than our lot!

Review by Swanks, April 2006: Good Luck is Extra

Very well patronized by the local Ex Pats but not the least bit unwelcoming to visitors.

Short time rooms are 400 Baht and the girls go from 500 Baht but some try to be silly on price, just laugh and say nothing and they stop being so silly. One even told me it was good luck to give her 2000 Baht Short Time....er...yes! I must admit that was a new one!

Beer 55 Baht and service with a smile.

  Autumn 2005:

Seems to be associated with a yacht club and the Mariner's Rest hotel, but this is not obvious when walking by. The bar is English owned and/or managed

It is quite a large bar with a pool table, various forms of seating and a large circular bar.

There seem to be about 8 girls waiting on customers. They are an average crew. There was absolutely no pressure to buy lady drinks but I can't say there was much enthusiasm to earn them either.

Draft Tiger beer 50 Baht, lady drinks 90 Baht

There is a free Sunday barbecue.

El Jaguar

Jomtien Complex

 El Jaguar

New bar for May 2008. Girls and poles for dancing.

  Review June 2008: Inexperienced

Usually the boy bars push out the girl bars, but somebody has decided to try his luck with a girl bar in the well established gay soi of the Jomtien Plaza located nearest the beach.

There were a couple of attractive girls on scouting duty so I popped in. It was clear that a customer was a bit of a novelty for the bar. They were so eager to earn a buck and yet they were so horribly wrong that it proved a dire visit.

First of all they decided that farangs like to ply multiple girls with  drink just to splash their cash. I soon shooed away the oldie of a double team and was left with a newbie girl.

I'd only been sitting for 5 minutes and half a bottle of beer when the waiter came and asked if I wanted another. So he got shooed away too. And before I had another sip, the mamasang came over and suggested short time in the rooms upstairs. So she had to be shooed away too. Limey I had hardly caught my breath.

I stayed one more drink and bought the girl a Spy cooler for 110 Baht. The waiter then made one final error, he rotated around the TV so that I could watch the music videos. My drinking partner became transfixed with the TV and I took it as a cue to depart.

I was told that the owner was Scandinavian. The bar is small and attractively decorated but somehow it didn't seem very practical. There were just a few comfortable seats around coyote dancing stages. But I bet the stages never get used. The bar is also lacking any degree of privacy.

On the way out I spotted the cutie again, and I thought that if it had been she that had followed me in, I may then have appreciated being hassled rapidly upstairs.

Review from Pattaya Pages Sep 2007: Cheap Drinks

Definitely a place for cheap drinks (Gin only 60 baht, and bottled Heineken only 40 baht!) but sadly, the girls didn't really catch our eye.

  Review Aug 2007: Plush Sofas

There were about 8 hostesses available in the bar, of which a couple were good looking. Unfortunately the lady that attached herself to me was not to taste so this was definitely a one drink visit.

I had to try one of the big plush leather sofas but in the end maybe these are not such a good for a hostess bar. My hostess sat opposite and the seats are so big that the distance triggered body language of being standoffish.

Looking around at a couple of guys who were enjoying the company of the hostesses, they were seated at the bar stools. Maybe a lesson for next time.

But the bar is very attractive and the drinks prices are very reasonable at 40 Baht for bottled beers.

Flannigan's Pub

Thappraya Road
(at the base pf the Jomtien Complex tower block condo)
 Flannigan's Pub

Large Irish themed pub opened 6th October 2007.

Review from Pattaya Secrets, Oct 2007: Spared No Expense

They have spared no expense on the décor and furniture, its layout is similar to that of Secrets in as far as the bar is in the centre with stools around it and then additional seating/eating/pool is area around the outside.

The drinks are competitively priced, draught Guinness, Heineken and Killkenny all at B170 a pint. I have to say the Guinness looks and tastes great. They have background music albeit very quiet and a couple of TV screens for sport.

They have quite a large dining area set out all prim and proper, I looked at the food menu and they have European and Thai food available, the prices seemed reasonable too.

Its early days yet, but its not setting the town on fire right now, both nights I was there it was fairly empty. As like the other Irish bars in Pattaya there are no girls available.

I cannot imagine this bar would have opened without doing their market research but it is a big bar situated in a very strange location with security barriers at the only entrance which hardly shout out "Welcome" to the potential passing trade.

On two occasions it was virtually empty and a bar without customers is a bar without atmosphere.

  March 2006: Fly On By

There were half a dozen girls, 2 were busy and 4 were playing pool with each other. That meant there were none who were available to chat.

Review April 2007: Customer Care Failure

Third visit and still no chance of getting beyond a single beer.

I tried to get one of the pretty girls inside but she seemed reluctant. Eventually she gave way (or else the mamasang signalled that she could). But then she proceeded to chat with the bar staff rather than me.

The bar was well overstaffed considering there were zero customers.

I would guess the lack of customer care suggests that the bar may be Thai owned.

Review Nov 2007: Middle Aged Bar Girls

A new bar has appeared in Jomtien Complex next door to El Coyote. I thought I would pop in for a beer particularly as it looked as if there could be aircon.

The bar has aircon units but they weren't in use. The lounge area has the inevitable pool table and various types of comfortable seating. It looked a pleasant enough bar.

I was followed in by the ever more typical middle aged bar girl. Flirting with girls way past their prime is not my thing and as I am not interested in pool it left me feeling instantly bored. I wished I had not even bought that single beer. What is one expected to do in a deserted bar?

To be fair on my way out I noticed a pretty bar girl and I could have easily been persuaded to enjoy the bar had she been assigned as my companion.

It is becoming ever more popular in Pattaya bars for a token pretty girl to be posted as advertising eye candy. She is often not allowed to leave her post even when invited in by a customer. Customers are expected to enjoy being entertained by the oldies inside.

Whatever happened to "first come first served"

Review by Swanks, April 2006: Hide Away Your Wallet

Nice pub style ambience. Has got a bit greedy on pricing of late though. Beer up by 10 Baht and double price if bought as a Lady drink. Mostly older bar girls but the younger cute ones seem to think old falang duffers will pay 2000 Baht up.

Maybe some will but this one wont! I was told by Mamasan that short time bar fine is 500 Baht and use of room 300 Baht. More gogo price than bar price. Perhaps that's why El Coyote round the corner is so busy!

  March 2006: Hot

The bar gets seriously hot. There are some meaty looking fans dotted around but maybe just not turned up high enough.

  August 2005: Renovated

The bar has just been renovated. They have added a circular beer bar that is half indoors and half outdoors. The decor so far looks very smart.

As always the atmosphere of a bar depends upon the ladies working there. But on an early evening visit all the right pointers were in place. There were a couple of pretty girls, there were a few regulars and the bar staff were very welcoming.

I guess there were 8 girls on entertainment duty. It has a popular pool table. Fans rather than air con though.

Certainly worth a return visit.

  Review April 2006: Transformers

I was enticed in by the prospect of checking out one of the 4 or 5 attractive girls waiting to serve. There were in fact about 10 working at the bar but a few would have been shooed away.

I sat down to watch the Jomtien world to pass me by but the view was somewhat overshadowed by a rather large electric pylon and transformer that sit directly in front of the bar.

No problems, I had an attractive hostess so I turned by gaze inwards instead. Couldn't stay too long though as it was a hot evening and this bar offers little in the way of effective fans.

Bottled beer and coke were 60 Baht & 50 Baht. Lady drinks are 90 Baht

Review May 2006: Welcome Aircon

A welcome air conditioned bar at the end of Soi Whitehouse. The bar has a small bar area and a few sofas. The sofas were press ganged into a sleeping area for the girls on duty rather than for customer seating.

The girls were welcoming enough but after a while preferred to chat amongst themselves. Late offers of short time seemed a little unconvincing after being ignored from proceedings for the last half hour.

Open shophouse bar associated with the KR Pool Bar in the little soi behind

Review by Steve, Feb 2006: Community

This is the bar on the main road to the beach, its sister KR (or whatever, typical Thai lack of imagination in naming places) is in the off-road soi at the back. There are comfortable cushioned seats right alongside the road. Look right and you are just 30 or 40 yards from the beach. A nice spot to relax, though the traffic fumes can be a pain.

Very friendly ladies and cold beer. Cheaper than some places, too, though at New Year they put the price of a bottle of Heineken up to 70 Baht.

Decent toilets. Free pool from 7:00 until midnight. They make a real effort here, the way they decorate the place for Halloween, Loy Krathong and various parties is a pleasure to behold.

The ladies live on-site upstairs so they have a genuine sense of community. There’s also relatively little staff turnover, so you can get to know the ladies and they probably won’t be gone tomorrow. As with all beer bars, the ladies are mostly not stunners, but at present there are certainly two hot girls here who love to make some money outside the bar confines.

 Las Vegas Bar

Short time bar

Review from jj, Nov 2006: Making Hay

Sensing the need to "make hay while the sunshines", the management of Las Vegas has raised the price of the pay-to-play behind the curtains to 300 for a 3-4 song set.
Neked-pool is still 200/game.

Some of the 'players' are a bit long in the tooth, but with age comes experience and quality.

If it has a drawback it is that the ladies tend to pick the customers. It is as if they have a set rotation policy = "you're up next". Most of the staff sit outside (a la Soi 6) and accompany a new arrival thru the door. Very little chance to see who's lingering in the a/c, before you are paired off with a lady or two.

A fun place with the right lady(ies).

News from jj, May 2006: Open Again

The bar was open on the next day and was  operating 'as usual'. If anything there were more customers than usual...any publicity is good publicity.

According to the ladies, there was no significant fine and there seems no imminent threat of closure. Just a bit of a lark to them.

News from Pattaya City News, May 2006: Snitched Up

The police heard about the chance to play pool with naked women for 200 Baht per game. They decided to conduct an undercover operation on Wednesday Night using a foreign man brought in from outside of Pattaya who was fitted with a camera and paid the 200 Baht to an employee of the bar who proceeded to remove her clothing and the game began.

The licenses for the bar and restaurant were checked and were found to be in order. The naked pool player, manager and owner of the bar were all taken to Pattaya Police Station and charged under public obscenity laws.

Review from Swanks, April 2006: Distractions

Despite gushing reviews, this place has the ambiance of a railway waiting room. Some nice girls but they are greedy for the white man's dollar and the beer is expensive. I cant remember how much because:

  • A) I had drank a lot of it
  • B) there was a naked girl bending over the pool table.

Worth a visit for one drink but not a "session" house.

Review from Pattaya Secrets, March 2006: Soi 6, without the seediness

“Soi 6, without the seediness.” The Girls that I met were good fun, and on the whole, seemed to enjoy working in the Bar. On my first visit with Larry, there were only one or two beauties. On my third, there were none. On my fourth, and last visit, there were four that I would have crawled over broken glass for, and I let one of them know that I was very interested. She grabbed my balls to let me know that she was up for it.

As we arrived at the Las Vegas, three or four Girls peeled off from the group outside, and followed us in. One of them was a nine, we were in Heaven.

I gave the girls the 200bht needed for the performance, and they stripped off right in front of us and played Pool. I was mesmerised at the sight of these Girls playing pool like this with no inhibitions. Nothing was left to the imagination. Thank you Buddha!

If the Las Vegas Bar was in Pattaya, I would definitely visit it a lot more. It may even become my “local.” I felt very comfortable in this Bar.

Review by jj, March 2006: Customer Satisfaction

The Las Vegas is on the first interior lane of Jomtien Plaza with a prominent sign on Thappraya Road.

This is quite a unique place for a number of reasons.

The uniform of the day for the gals of Las Vegas is two strips of elastic cloth, no bra, no knickers.

The owner has just up-graded his pool tables, adding a second. For a mere 200 baht, you can attempt to win at pool against one of these ladies as she shrugs off the cloth bands and plays you in the buff.

Las Vegas has a lounge area in the rear of the bar. If you are not interested in pooling-around you can fool-around to your heart’s content there. For that same 200 baht and a drink per gal, they will draw the curtains around the sofas and slip out of their duds as well. There is a small (very small) dance floor with pole for them to loosen up on.

The music in Las Vegas is another reason to visit. While it is not the most dance-able for the gals, it is 60-70s light rock, folk-rock. Makes for easy conversation and background while you enjoy the company of the ladies.

Short time arrangements are readily available with large aircon rooms with full shower/toilet in the room. One of the best maintained around Pattaya.

Unlike other bars, that tend to have major mood swings with staff changes, Las Vegas seems to maintain a level of consistent service whoever is working on that day. Customer satisfaction is almost guaranteed.

Review by jj, April 2008: Non-Descript

This is a completely non-descript bar with a stable of long-in-the-tooth ladies.

Its biggest drawback is the noise. This is generated by the adjacent bar playing something vaguely resembling music at maximum volume. This made normal conversation at Long Tail nearly impossible. Not sure what the neighbors can do when one decides to be the big bully on the block.

Fortunately, the mamassan at Long Tail has not entered into a Soi-7-style battle of the bands. Rather she has just allowed her stereo to gather dust.

All boils down to a place I will not likely be seen in again!

A rather unexciting bar that could do with a few lessons in body language and customer service. Most customers seemed to be only staying for a quick drink as the girls were either too new to partake in the basics, too stand offish, or else too beautiful..."what you looking at?" came my way a couple of times.

Beers were reasonable around the 55 Baht mark but a lady drink cost 105 Baht.

  Review April 2006: Cool Advice

If any bar owner is struggling for ideas to attract people to a bar then my first tip must always be to get aircon. My itinerary of Jomtien bars is based on staying cool and I also prefer the level of privacy afforded by an inside bar.

My first visit to the bar was indeed in search of cool...and I found it here. I have walked past the bar several times but it always looked quiet. But once inside it turns out to be a popular hideaway. The usual, drinks, girls, pool and bar games is the order of the day. But it felt pretty much like a local in the UK...except for the drinks, girls and bar games.

Review May 2006: Bar for a Rainy Day

As I was walking past, I felt a few spots of rain, so considering it an omen I popped in whilst the ensuing storm passed.

It is a small English run aircon bar with about half a dozen girls, most of which were presentable.

Had a pleasant enough drink with a friendly girl. Coke was 35 Baht, bottled Tiger 65 Baht and lady drinks 90 Baht. The barfine is 300 Baht, an amount considered too high by a half tempted customer.

Review from Soi-Katoey May 2006: Mixed Gender

Run by a ladyboy and her British husband, this beer bar has between 7 and 10 ladyboys and 5 or 6 ladies working in there on a regular basis.

Nice place, the owners play good music, and they have a friendly attitude.

Review January 2006:

Dropped into this bar at 4pm recently. Left at 4:35pm after a 50 Baht small Chang beer.

Nothing of interest. A gay cashier, a midget, some gender benders with large chests and baritone voices, the ubiquitous pool table, very uncomfortable furnishings and no chit-chat whatsoever.

Thankfully, my one and only visit.

Review Summer 2005:

Stopped there after visiting the immigration office. Sally has HUGE knockers and was very friendly. Sat with another cutie who showed me a few racy pics of herself on her cellphone. I guess those cellphones aren't all bad. I did eat something, but I don't remember what it was. Too many distractions.

Review May 2008: Just One Lady

Stopped by early evening and there were just 3 girls outside. And my selected girl vanished to the dispensing side of the bar along with her colleague. I think they are down to just one lady on hostess duty. Doesn't look hopeful.

Now doubt they will bounce back when there are a few pretty ladies around.

  Review April 2008: New Owners

The bar is always on my Jomtien shortlist due to a general lack of air conditioning in town and Scooby's is one of the coolest.

I used to be a regular under the previous owners but have found the bar a little variable of late. Saying that I have still enjoyed a few recent visits and there are a few pretty girls on hand. But somehow they don't seem to stay around for long.

  Review Oct 2006: Local Pub

I regularly enjoy a drink in the bar particularly because of the good aircon and non pushy, friendly girls.

It is not the place to look for a barfine though. On Sunday, Wednesday and Thursday barfines are not available and on other days the girls don't offer. In fact I have never seen any girl actually taken. There is a room upstairs though.

Perhaps this approach is made clear in the bar's own promotional material: Designed for customers who want to come and relax in air-conditioned comfort as a break from the frenetic pace of looking for their next main squeeze

Review by Swanks, April 2006: Scooby Snacks

Nice easy atmosphere .Very good food for free on Sunday and Wednesday. Most of the girls good fun and not pushy ,especially the older ones. Some of the younger ones suffer from "Prima Donna" attitude especially the half falang girl, which is a shame as she is stunning! Bar fine 400 Baht

  March 2006: Cute and Chilly

The bar is an important one of my Jomtien circuit due to the pleasantly chilly setting on the aircon.

On my last visit, most of the half dozen girls were students stacking up the cash for term time beginning in May. I had a pleasant chat with a pretty young  thing who spent most of the time preening herself and glancing into the many mirrors in the bar. I don't think she was too keen on offsite activities with oldies and uglies such as myself though.

Review Aug 2007: Taking More Care

The bar has gradually been employing a few more attractive girls to sit outside and entice people in so it was about time to see if this was reflecting a more positive attitude to customer care.

And indeed things have improved a little. An attractive and responsive girl took me into her bosom and made for a pleasant few drinks.

There are a few other entertainments, firstly there is pool on the large tables or secondly, one could sit for half an hour watching a couple of pretty young things preening themselves in front of the mirror. I have a feeling that some hansum men were expected...not that I saw any though.

Review Jan 2006: No Idea of Customer Care

There were a few cute girls playing pool with young guys and few more pretty enough girls outside. However the bar could only rustle up the bar oldie to take of me so I shooed her away and was left to drink a lonely beer. This bar definitely needs a mamasang to remind the girls that they should be taking care of customers rather than sending them to Coventry. Bottled beer was 55 Baht.

Review from Pattaya Secrets Sept 2006: Beware of Take Care

I order a vodka and coke and whilst waiting for my drink, I notice a price list on the table showing that vodka and most other spirits are 80 baht. So when the drink and the tab arrive, you can imagine my surprise when it said 100 baht. Blank stare from the girl sitting with me when I point out the difference.

Review by Swanks, April 2006: Kwai Falangs

I enjoyed a visit as the "Invisible man". I don't know what the bar girls do there except talk to each other and eat. They would find it interesting to talk to customers I am sure. They might find out that a lot of long term residents understand some "Lao" as well as Thai now and can understand there constant catty comments about customers... Still, just another Kwai Falang [translation: fat old stupid rich westerner] who wont be bothering them again.

  Summer 2005:

Large beer bar with a dozen girls. I had a lonely pint as I turned up at meal time and the girls were more intent on the scran than the customers. Perhaps it would be more friendly at another time, but then again, it is always meal time in Thailand.

Notes

Pattaya bars most likely to be listed are those that occupy a permanent looking standalone building. Beer bars in complexes will not be listed unless mentioned in dispatches. Gay/Thai/Karaoke bars are not listed due to a lack of expertise in those areas. Gogo bars are listed on a separate page. I have added food reviews but this is not a comprehensive service. I will only list eateries where people have submitted comments

The following reviews are those that I come across on the web, in guide books, from contributors and of course from my own visits. Reviewers may be unreasonably harsh and bar owners may present a rosy picture of their bars...so don't take everything at face value...go and see for yourself. Click on the street name to obtain a map of the bar area.

And a couple of words of warning:

  • In short time rooms...keep an eye on your wallet to ensure that it stays with you long time.

  • To those with Thai wives, be aware of the motor cycle taxi network used to keep tabs on errant husbands.
