Parking – Open-air Bar – Garden-tables - all is well looked after and making a comfortable stay with accommodating service (girls). A/C rooms and shower across corridor are all excellent and spacey – marble flooring.

European owned, managed by Thai consort. Definitively positive in every aspect – pricing appropriate. Excellent and discretely piped in music from the sixties to the nineties. Fun, entertaining from midi to mid-night. This is the place where you create your own fun and luck!

Black Pearl bar has only six mediocre lassies left and 3-5 customers per day - the closing for one year of Siam Country Club Golf Course has not helped. Decor and management is Thai-style. Room is 200 Baht a shot, and the "girls" don't warrant much more than that.

Butterfly always seems to change. Some days the staff seems happy, other days not. I have been the only customer in the bar and barely got a hello.

Decent music and aircon. Clean rooms available.

The bar needs to advertise a bit, you get the feeling the owner doesn't care whether or not he is breaking any records for business

Nothing like it use to be. The recent closing of Siam golf club for renovations has hurt it...but worse is what happened about 3-years ago:

A number of golfers (locals) would stop at the Butterfly for drinks and a short time after playing a round. Then, they went home to their Thai wives. One of the wives found out about the Butterfly, via the 'bamboo telegraph' and contacted some of the other wives/. They met and decided that the next time the husbands went golfing at Siam, they would go to the Butterfly and wait for them to arrive after their game. In short, the golfers arrived...and...well the shit hit the fan. Word spread and few golfers in relationships would venture to the Butterfly!

Siam Country Club Golf Course is now closed and some lasses have left the Butterfly Bar due to lack of business.

The free food afternoon has been changed from Mondays to Tuesdays.

  February 2006:

It seems that the Siam Country Golf club is having a little difficulty recruiting sufficient members and is considering a year off. This is proving a worrying though for the short time bars on the route from Pattaya. The Butterfly Bar in particular takes advantage of those 'just going for a round of golf dear'. 

  January 2006:

Hardly any pretty girls, just average and worse. If one is not living in the area, it's not worth the rather long drive.

  Summer 2005:

One of the area's oldest but nowadays not one of the best. In 1992 Gerd Fohmann + consortium built the Thai Style Villa Hotel, bungalows and bar. Very nice too but quite a way out of town. Mostly the bar is used by golfers coming back from the nearby Siam Country Club course. A shrewd member of the consortium, Werner, bought the bar off Gerd and has run it successfully ever since.

In the bar, not too much talent around and the only remaining ST room is very tacky to say the least. Keep your flip-flops on in the shower or you will get a dose of foot clap. Room 250 Baht and "girls" @ 600, 500, 400 Baht depending on how many kids they've had, 6, 5 or 4.

Friendly Aussie run place. A couple of seating pagodas in the front garden, plus seating by the front bar with sensible seat sizes.

There is an outside bar area and an inside aircon area with a brand new Pool/snooker table.

Drinks reasonable at 60 Baht for San Mig Lite for example. Chang 45 Baht , GinTonic 80 Baht , lady drink 90 Baht .

For me The Dao bar on the darkside is a great joint at the moment, 15-20 girls, opens about 1pm till midnight, ST rooms available and Heineken only 60 baht a bottle, this bar is a bit similar to the inside of the Jade House is probably best way to explain it for those of you who haven't been there.

The previous poster was either diddled (with lol) or paid the LT rate but I can't confirm what that is.

The bar fine is 400 Baht not 250 Baht. If you meet up with your girl when the bar is closed for 24 hours the aggressive cashier will still charge you 400 Baht as "she was not in her room". I don't know if this is common practice but it has put me permanently off the place.

Getting to the bar up the atrociously maintained Soi 5 will also quickly wreck your vehicle.

Euro food only available from 6pm onwards . Pizzas are good and all grub can be taken away. Prices for solids and liquids are reasonable.

Swung by DAO Bar on a weekday afternoon. I'd agree completely with the "nice surprise" review. This is a cozy little bar with accommodating if not overly responsive girls. I asked about the unused pole in the middle of the room. Was offered a "show" for 500. Seems awful steep when BF is only 250!

3 of the 6 girls were completely engrossed in the large screen TV. My lady-of-the-hour insisted on echoing our conversation to her compatriots hiding behind the bar. A little disconcerting but otherwise innocuous.

Shows a bit of promise and will be on my list of places to revisit but not high up.

What a nice surprise. it was hidden in the back side of complex containing a restaurant, swimming pool and a motel, Dao is nicely decorated and quite spacious bar with 3 or 4 sitting areas with rattan sofas and comfy chairs.

A single gogo type pole in the center, where the girls show their talents from time to time, after a few taquillas...very dim lights and good air condition...there are 8 girls on show, and all of them are really nice and not pushy...all in mikro-mini jeans skirts last night....groping ala soi 6 is a part of the deal and the girls are fun to chat with. the motel rooms are conveniently used for short time.

Bottled beer at 60 Baht. Whiskey/vodka + mixer at 80 Baht. large bottle of saeng som inc free mixers and ice - 600 baht. lady drinks are 80 Baht.

I went there last night and not impressed at all. The quality of girls poor. The mamason's son was wondering in and out all the time. So no fun to had with the girls. I was asked if I wanted to be entertained in the swimming pool but I declined with the quality of the girls.

I will try and get there earlier next time and see if there is any improvement.

French owned and nestled in a big house with a private swimming pool (skinny dipping is allowed at all times...), a bar and a number of sitting areas/arrangements dotted around the place....bar stools, leather sofas, thai style Gazeebo and deck chairs around the pool....we got there quite late and a few of the girls were off entertaining but there were still 7-8 babes, some really presentable....

A perfect place for a private binge or a quiet evening of cheap booze....barfines are 200 Baht and girlies are on "dark side" level of pay ie up to you...

The Lucky Time Bar is a haven away from the madness of the major soi's. Owned by a Dutchman named Alex and his wife, they welcomed us and treated us as friends and not just customers they helped make me and my friends holiday

This is a family orientated bar frequented by Expats from all over the world, It is well run and the perfect place to have a relaxed drink with family or friends. The Bar is well airconditioned and has Pool/Darts and Table Football to play, the friendly girls are more than happy to thrash you at the game of your choice.

The food served is fantastic and very well priced as is the beer 60 baht for an ice cold Singha (miss it already)

The girls are a really friendly bunch and there is no nicer feeling than to come down in the morning and be greeted by your name

The Apartments are spacious and very well presented and you have both aircon and a fan all are ensuite with daily cleaning service and towel exchange and most importantly inexpensive

A previous review stated there were no short time rooms this is really not that sort of bar. You are more than welcome to take ladies back to the bar for a drink or to your room

I will definitely be stopping here again next year.

I went in search of the "farm fresh talent" referred to by the previous reviewer but didn't find any.

Instead I found 6 or 7 reasonably attractive girls attending to about 8 customers. A girl who I wasn't interested in and who spoke no English assigned herself to me. The rest of the girls were busy with regulars and I got a great view of the backs of their heads.

There's nothing here that you can't find in hundreds of beer bars all over Pattaya so unless you live very close by it's definitely not worth a trip.

  January 2006: English Lessons

The turning off the Suhumvit is called Soi Boonsampan - no number on the Soi sign. Soi Khao Noi is the extension after the railway crossing.

Pleasant and comfortable bar with lively, friendly ladies. Quite a few have Thai boyfriends, so watch your step. If you want to talk to the English boss, get there after 6pm. The lady that latched on to me was interested only in learning English and looking for a rich farang aged 50 to 60, so I did not get to see the rooms which are charged at 300 Baht with the ladies quoted at 500 Baht or so for upstairs activities. Bar prices reasonable. Mamasan a bit pushy with lady-drinks. If you get hungry, there is a Thai restaurant next door on one side of the bar and Ed's Chippy on the other.

  Summer 2005:

Apparently the bar has been up and running for some time, but only as a single shop house. In recent weeks it has acquired the place next door and undergone a substantial refit so that it now boasts an enclosed, air-conditioned section with comfortable two-seater lounge chairs and the ubiquitous TV showing sport (generally football). The 'old' bar has had a lick of paint and has the requisite pool table, while seating out the front is stock-standard concrete tables, good for watching the passing parade but tough on the posterior after an hour or so.

The new management are a friendly bunch and, importantly, the serving girls are a personable crew. As with most boozers the batting order is a bit light on with around a half-dozen meeters and greeters, although there should soon be a few more smiling faces warming the front pews. The current girls are friendly in the way of women who have yet to be exposed to the hard-ass attitude of many of their inner-Pattaya cousins and their flowing white skirts are definitely fetching. Worth a look if you happen to live in or be wandering around the area or just fancy checking out the rooms for about an hour of relaxation.

Seating is comfortable and cosy in the forefront with a dining room to the left and a huge bar at the rear where drinkers can sit and watch the big-screen TV.

The Red Lion has a leisurely opening at 11.00 am when the full range of the pub’s breakfasts and morning snack foods can be enjoyed. The big breakfast comes with unlimited tea or coffee and doubles up on everything, i.e sausages, bacon, eggs, toast, masses of baked beans, all the works. It costs B.150 for a Fred Flintstone start to the day with a smaller one for Wilma at B.110.

Lots of traditional English options on the menu including: sausages & mash, fish ‘n chips, scampi, and home-made fish cakes, chicken tikka masala. There’s a special kid’s menu evoking childhood memories with offerings of fish fingers, chicken nuggets or sausages with chips and beans to please the juniors. The Thai menu is huge presenting 86 dishes.

Not long after opening, I asked the owner (Adrian) if it was a bar that served food or a restaurant that served alcohol.

He said he had aimed for the former but seemed to have achieved the latter.

Food was quite good for a while then a change of cooks and an increase in prices ran him off my list of restaurants, ie portions and taste not up to the price.

Scottish Frank and his life-partner Pim have opened the Scotland Yard bar on Soi Khao Dalo. It is located about 1km from Sukhumvit, just beyond the 7-11.

If there is one word to describe Scotland Yard it is "easy". The bar itself and the resident ladies are easy on the eye. The music is easy on the ear. The drink prices are easy on the wallet. Frank hopes his bar will also be easy to find.

Opening early (10am) and closing whenever, Frank will likely be there to greet you when you arrive to imbibe.

• Dancing Girl ... ST 1000 / LT 2000 (assuming good performance). I would suggest that you should be willing to add an extra 500 to the GoGo fee if you get stuck on a model class girl and you find yourself unable to say no.
• Beer Bar Girl ... ST 500 / LT 1000 (quickie) to ST 700 / LT 1500 (for an entire evening of effort)
• Street Freelancer ... ST 500 / LT 1000 (no questions, no exceptions)
• Short Time Bar Girl... Traditionally ST 500 with 250 for the room (+ small tip for good service) but now edging up to ST 700 and 300 for the room
